Wow. You are becoming more and more of a doctor. You abreviated tons of words.

Here are a few changes, but it is a very good first draft.

What stopped you??? As I recall, you are at University of Michigan, right????

USC has been great to me. Excuse me, Keck. Great weather, and they cut out all useless information being taught, and I got president of a few things. I'm def very happy here, as you could see from any of my posts on the school.

I use my first name but I have had several preceptor identify me as Dr ______ who is currently a second year at _____. There is no way in the world I am going to interupt him to correct this not because I want to be called Dr but because I figure it is his office, his pt so I will follow his lead. But if I meet the pt first I will still use my first name.

Usually when a patient calls me Dr. I instruct them to call me by my first name. I introduce myself by first and last name as if I just met a guy off the street. I will do that when I become a physician as well... if a person wants to call me Dr., then that's his or her decision. When I graduate medical school, I'm not changing my first name to "Doctor."

I introduce myself as a student doctor.

I introduced myself as Student Doctor Andrew Doan... They would either call me Dr. Doan or most often "The Medical Student... the kid with the short coat"....

Regardless to what you introduce yourself as, most see white coat regardless to whether it is short or long and say "DOCTOR" or atleast that has been my experience so far!

i usually introduce myself as dr barb, goddess of healing

we're referred to as student physician at our school.

I love that "student physician" title they give to med students. What does that make you, a physician who only takes care of students?😎

At my school we've been specifically told not to intruduce ourselves as "student doctor". Apparently patients confuse this with residents who are also a type of student doctor.

I think it's kind of funny, though, because our nursing students are referred to as student nurses, pharm students -- student pharmacists, PT students --- etc.

I introduce myself as a medical student. If the attending/resident introduces me as Doctor, I make sure I go back and correct it later.

I started out by introducing myself as first and last name, student doctor. During the entire third year, introducing myself that way, I never was called by name. I was called many other things such as maam, the nurse, sweetheart, honey, sugar, sweat pea, and all kinds of other inappropriately familar terms of endearment. Sometimes, though they do call me doc. Most often, they think I'm a nurse, even though I have clearly identified myself as a student doctor.

About halfway though my 4th year, though I started introducing myself as doctor last name, student doctor. That helped sometimes with the nurse issue, but usually not with the sweetheart stuff. Occasionally I've tried to politely explain to pt that it's not appropriate to use these terms of endearment in a professional relationship with varying degrees of success. Never once has a pt remembered my name.

Guys have it so much easier!!!

And whenever I'm making phone calls within the hosptial to get track down why we dont' have lab results or get xrays that have been ordered for days done, I just go by doctor last name. Otherwise I get the runaround from the tech or secretary wanting to actually talk to the resident who doesnt' have time to make all these phone calls.
