How do waitlists and financial aid work?

So if you are waitlisted, and you hear back in july, does that mean that you do not receive any financial aid? how does this work exactly? it seems a little odd to me that you would wait on a school and then not receive anything, but i also don't see how if financial aid packets are done before may 15th that there would be anything left...

can anyone give insight??

If you are waitlisted, still put the school on your FAFSA. Once they accept you, they should hurry up and send you an award letter.
