How do you get involved internationally?

If your a physician how do you get the opportunity to spend some time in another country to maybe help other patients or perform surgeries. Not necessarily live there, but i heard of many physicians that travel to another country and perform certain surgeries, is it maybe because they are very well-known for a certain surgical technique? etc.

Doctors without borders or having a peer group that likes to travel and do such work. If you're a physician and have some sort of network you'll know people who do such. My dad has been involved in such trips for years and he knows of about 5 other groups of doctors who also travel to practice internationally (they all do it during August since doctors like to take off August).
