How Do You Get the Grades

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't have too much advice to give but from everything that I have heard and read, some good volunteer time, shadowing, and research would help. I am not sure what your chances are, or what programs you could get into but I am positive someone here on SDN will have all that info. I found this little chart that I keep with me as a reminder of what my goals are as far as GPA, MCAT, ect.

Hope this helps 😉
Wow, I thougth those numbers were low, but I ended up finding those numbers verbatim at the University of Utah SOM: http://uuhsc.utah.edu/som/admissions/support_files/Self_Assessment_2007_2008.pdf

That's inspiring. I'm doing more reserach in two weeks than most kids do in their entire undergrad 😀 lol.

So I just looked at your myspace page--you are a wiccan??!! Is that like the witchcraft thing? All I can say is wow! I don't mean that to sound judgmental I've just never met anybody who was part of that group that ever did anything normal (ie medicine).

this seems awfully sketchy. I would think most people have more clinical experience, because someone like me had ~20 hours a week for the better part of 18 months.

Yeah I suppose these are just averages of med school applicants. So the averages are my minimum goals😉 I know once I am an RT I will be doing around 30 hours a week of work for the better part of 4 years, lol.

I often refer to myself as "spiritual but not religious" because many wiccans can be.. different. I don't think there is anything wrong with most wiccans but I use the practice to stay focused and goal oriented. I don't wear mideaval wear or have long black hair (pics show I am pretty normal looking🙂) Our minds are vast and often mysterious things and the things that I can take from Wicca allow me to focus my mind on what I want. Its more of a mental thing than a "magick" thing, at least for me.

It is also how I have managed to conquer many of the mental strains of a busy schedule and many things that come with pre-med work. If you can learn how to focus your mind you can do anything🙂

That info is straight outta University of Utah SOM. I found it myself--look in my post above. I was totally suprised.

Attend every class. Do every homework assignment. Learn material early, not the day before exams. If you know a premed student a year ahead of you at your school, ask for advice for specific classes. Most importantly, the standards you set for yourself should be higher than what other people (professors) set for you. My grade goal in college was 4 As and 1 B for each semester. That makes a 3.8/4.0 while giving some room to be human.

Also, get a premed advisor, and do everything they recommend.

Good luck!
