1st year of pre-pharm, and i always get like half way into my work then find myself doing something out of the blue 20mins later, what do you guys do to get motivated, like a viagra for my brain (not adderall)?

I have this problem really bad when doing homework on my computer, so I made a paint document that says (my name), PharmD and set it as my wallpaper. Reminds me to keep my eyes on the prize 😍

You better snap out of it as you are going to be jumping through hoops for a while. Try to enjoy it.. find something in what you are doing to enjoy. I'm a P1 and I'm jumping through more hoops than you!

^ha! i like that a lot

if you're in the zone, then study. if not, then don't.
it's as simple as that

you aren't going to learn much if you're feeling lazy or thinking about something else..go watch TV for half an hour or something and come back and study. that's what i do...

Get out of the dorm room. I could never study in my dorm room. It's much easier to focus at the library. There aren't so many distractions.

Study groups help a lot, to motivate each other. Problem is that finding one isn't so easy and you also don't want too many in the group or you'll start distracting each other instead of getting work done. I like around 3 to 5 in a group and its also good to be multi-gender since you want different perspectives on conceptual problems.

We just moved last month, so I constantly have a list of things going on in my head of what needs to be done around the house. If I can not concentrate on actually getting my studying done, I go into the garage, see all the boxes and decide that I will go study. Serious.

Anyway, maybe it would help if you plan ahead that you will study for 30 minutes, then take a 20 minute break. Set a timer and just work for that thirty minutes, then get up to do something for your break and then get back to it. This way, when you think "hey I should go do ________" you can just remind yourself that you can do it when the timer goes off.

Couldn't agree more. Find people you think are strong in areas that you are weak. I work with a group of 4 people. Two females and two males. I am good with theory and one girl is good with calculations. We compliment each other and it works very well! Once you get to pharmacy school, there is no more competing, everyone helps everyone else.

I agree...but I simply haven't been practicing what I preach.😳

Also, I had to remind myself that the long term consequences of slacking should make the instant gratification of IMing, e-mailing, Facebooking, etc is a bad idea.

I am the world's worst about this. I tend to get distracted and will do ANYTHING (vaccuum, dishes, walk my dog anything) to put off my studying. So.. I write myself notes EVERYWHERE reminding myself that if I want to achieve my goal.. I better go back to what I was doing and stop procrastinating. It helps, it's like living at home again and having mom yell at me to do my work :luck:
