What were some sure signs YOU felt were good when you interviewed? I am talking everything short of them telling you were a shoe in..

Shared laughter?

An interviewers smile or smirk?

engaging conversation?

How did YOU know your interview went well? (And led you to eventually getting in)

Random I know, but I like to see the correlations.

For myself, being from Texas, I won't know if I got in or not until mid November, but I thought my interviews went well because myself and my interviewers were able to share some laughs.

I'll know when one of them leads to an acceptance! Honestly though, it's really hard to read some interviewers. As long as I didn't say anything ridiculously dumb I feel like it went well.

I knew it went well when about 10 minutes into the interview one of my interviewers said, "Oh, wait, we didn't ask you about your clinical experience. We just jumped right in and got to chatting and I almost forgot."

Also, when the people outside had to bang on the door twice for us to stop the interview and I was the one to thank them and end the conversation.

I'm pretty sure the more the interviewers like talking to you, the better off you are.

Of course, I then was so excited that when I came out of the room and the interviewing coordinator asked how it went I smiled and gave 2 thumbs up like the Fonz. Luckily, someone must have been a Happy Days fan. 😉

At the interview I had last week, my interviewer said, "I usually tell people who I think are going to get in, and probably at several other schools, to really look at what each school has to offer *blah blah our school is the best*. Make sure after you get your acceptance letter you come back for a second look."

I got in the elevator right outside his office and did a solitary celebration dance the whole way down.

Kind of a similar thing for me--my interviewer asked me if there was any way he could help convince me to go to that school, let him know.

At the school that I've already been accepted at, I didn't think I did so great in the interview. But at the school where I thought I nailed it (and the interviewer said verbatim "I hope to see you here next fall"), I got waitlisted. So I really have no idea.

Thats what one of my interviewers said when we were done, but I thought that was one of the worst interviews I had. Im really hope they actually mean it, because it was my first choice school.

One of my interviewers started the interview with, "I really enjoyed reading your personal statement"

I was like, really? You enjoyed that piece of crap? SWEET!

A lot of interviewers say this just to end the interview on a positive note. Remember that the interviewers often can feel awkward if things end unpleasantly so they use these tactics to give the interview a smooth finish. Don't necessarily find too much solace in what they say after an interview.

You gotta believe, man!!!

I didn't think I did well in my interview, but then my interviewer said it, and I was waitlisted. D'oh.

I completely agree.

+1

There's no way to know. I agree that interviewers' comments and reactions should be ignored - they're meaningless and often have nothing to do with what the interviewer is really thinking at the moment.

Theres always the negative interpretation of somebodys actions, and always that one person that will point them out, but I am usually aware of them. Which is why I dont find solace in a simple phrase at the end of an interview. However, regardless of what the interviewer said or didnt say I am still hoping I get into my school of choice, as most people probably do.

I don't. About 10 minutes ago, I got waitlisted at a school that I thought was by far, by far, my best interview.

one interviewer apologized to me for being a hard-@$$ and admitted that he was just a little too cynical. it was supposed to be 30 min, but we were talking for 1:15. Great guy. result: acceptance.

second school. as we were leaving, the interviewer shakes my hand and winks at me, telling me that "we (the school) need people like you taking care of me in my dotage"

don't worry. i had to go look it up too.

result: acceptance.

👍

The interviewer phones her well-funded (grant money) friend in another department to introduce you so that "you can do research with her" when you attend here. Also, the interviewer tells you that she hopes you will choose **** after you receive all your acceptances at the end of the cycle.

Also, your interview ends up running over the next interviewers slot by 45 minutes, because you're having a fun conversation about neurology and ramachandran

Strangely enough I actually HOPE to get the interviewers that are really hard on you (on purpose or otherwise) as opposed to the chummy, super-friendly-to-everyone interviewers.. my theory is that as long as you stay cool, classy, professional, mature, and show some character, they'll be more impressed with you than some guy you just have a fun conversation with for 30 min would be.
Psychologically they will know they were rough on you and may feel guilty and give you a little extra on your score from them because of it.

well I knew my interviews went well when the interviewers tear off a piece of paper to write their email on.

happened in one of my interviews and get accepted within a week of the interview.

The other one was similar. She said I could email her and phone her with questions.
I was like awesome.

YEAH.

sitll waiting for that one though..hopefully another acceptance.

Yeah, that is my thinking on it too. If you don't get flustered under pressure and convey yourself well, It's got to look favorably on you.

Also important to remember that not everyone is always equal when they get to the interview stage, and that many people may be getting rejected or accepted despite their interview.
