I volunteer with Red Cross disaster services with my local chapter. We respond to fires, floods, emergencies, and other events where people become displaced.

This is an "on-call" activity. I am a part of a three-member team. When we get a call, we respond. We usually have training and drilling every couple of weeks to prepare for serious events.

How do you list an activity like this? A couple weeks may go by and my team won't get a call. There may come a time where we have to open a shelter and that will require a significant time commitment. When you do get a call, each of those calls becomes an experience that you don't forget. On my last call, we relocated a family who lost everything in a fire. We also did a disaster assessment on the burned out apartment building. I had never walked through a burned out building before (It smells like BBQ.) I also got my picture in the local paper.

I just don't know how to describe this on the application as far as time commitment.

However much time you spent, even when you're just sitting there... counts.

So, if you spent 30 hours in a week, and only 4 of those hours were actually time spent treating people, I would still list 30 hours.

Clarify in your description that you were on-call etc.

I disagree if your "on call" is from home. Heck, my brother used to take call from Shea Stadium.

Count up the hours you spend over 6 months between training, drills and service. Divide by 26. That's your hours per week. In the description, describe how this can be weeks of "nothing" followed by 30 hours in a single week or whatever it is.

LIZZY!!! Your avatar!!! NO!!!!!!

But I forgot about this factoid... Lizzy 1, CodeBlu 0.

This was my thoughts exactly in the 2018 thread. I feel it is fine to list all the hours spent somewhere other then home for an activity as long as your are honest about what the activity is in the description.
