Beef up that shadowing to around the 50 hour mark and you will be golden, I think. The ESL thing will likely cut you some slack in regards to the CARS subscore, so just apply broadly to schools where your stats are competitive. Your GPA is fine.I am a non-traditional candidate. I completed my undergraduate degrees in Poland. I have a PhD from an American university, and all my prerequisites (plus some more) for medical school application have been completed at a 4-year institution here in the US. My graduate GPA is 3.85, while the one for my pre-reqs is 4.0.
In the process of enrolling in the undergraduate institution, where I completed my pre-reqs, some credits for courses from Poland and my graduate program in the US were transferred. This makes my overall GPA at that institution a 3.76.
How will the Adcoms look at that?
The rest of my application is as follows:
MCAT - 513 (132/124/130/127); I know... the 124 CARS... ESL :/
3.5 years of volunteering at a nursing home (calling Bingo every weekend) (270 hours)
2 years of volunteering in the ER (340 hours)
1 year of work in the ER as ED Tech/Secretary (over 1200 hours)
10 hours of shadowing (basically I wanted to shadow a specific specialty that I know already from the ER to see if I really have a good idea of what it is)
19 journal publications (5 single authored) in mathematics
PI of 2 NSF grants (in mathematics)
6 years of work as a university professor (tenured now)
did some endurance sports (marathons) - sometimes raising money for charities
Any chance of getting in, guys?
I think your app has a lot of potential, and that if you sell yourself well, you will get a lot of love. Try some DO schools too. I think you'll do great!
