How does a score on the DAT translate to MCAT?

I know they are two different tests. But in terms of application, would you say that a student with 30 MCAT (average accepted score in most medical schools) applying for medical school is the same as a student with 19AA applying for dental school?

I just want your guys' opinions.

thanks.

No. The MCAT and DAT are two different ball games. There are students who took both the MCAT and DAT and scored better on the DAT. There are also students who took both the MCAT and DAT and scored much better on the MCAT. It all depends on the person.

Dentalkid is a party pooper. 🙄

I would agree that a 30 MCAT is about a 19 AA. Maybe 31-32 is a 20 AA.

30 mcat = 20 AA....check math: 30/45 and 20/30 = 2/3

You cant use math like that to compare these 2 tests in my opinion.

I think you have to use %'s such as what the top 90% DAT scorers and top 90% MCAT scorers make.

Or possibly average acceptance? like for DAT its 19 and MCAT is like what..? a 30-31?

If i had to guess I would agree with what aqz suggested.. 20 = 31-32, 21 = 32-34, etc.. a 25+ on dat would probably be similar to making a 38+ on MCAT

Although I'm sure if used this question on the pre-med board they would say a 20 on the DAT is like making a 28 on the MCAT because its SOOOO much harder.. lol

you CAN NOT compare scores, Different tests ! MCAT has Physics that is much harder than PAT section of DAT 🙂.... Thanks god no physics on my exams lol.. good luck on which ever road you take

OP isn't suggesting the tests are directly comparable in any way. He's asking for score equivalencies as far as performance goes. As he mentioned, things like average score for all test takers, average score for accepted students, average score at high end schools, score range that's considered insanely high, etc.

Again, it all depends on the person. Honestly, I would have not mind if physics were to appear on the DAT instead of the PAT. I would have actually preferred it actually.

I loved physics as well. I actually think the PAT is harder simply because its something you have to teach your self instead of having your professor spoon feed you how to tackle the questions. The PAT, in my opinion, proves how good of a dentist we will one day be. In addition, the QR accomplishes the same thing because you are thrown a bunch of odd questions and how you answer them proves how good of a test taker you are on the spot. While, physics is just a bunch of equations and plugging in that anyone can learn how to do. Just my uncensored take on it.
