I am retaking a 4 credit pre-req. At the school I'm retaking it at, it is a 5 credit course. Does AMCAS average my first grade as 4 credits and my retake as 5 credits such that my retake actually has a higher weight?

AMCAS counts them as two separate courses. The course with more credits will obviously have more weight when it comes to GPA averages.

AMCAS uses weighted averages to calculate all their grades (or quality points= credits*class grade), thus your 5 grade course is weighed heavier.

awesome; so this helps me for AMCAS and hurts me for AACOMAS

Probably helps you more for AACOMAS given that AACOMAS replaces classes you retake with newer grades versus AMCAS where retaken classes are just averaged in

Well that's what I was expecting but on the DO board they told me if it's a different number of credits they count it as two separate courses.😱 That seems ridiculous to me since the title of the course is the same and obviously the same course; one is just more hours and therefore more credits.

I just averaged my ochem 1 and 2 retakes as 6 credits (5.1 (C-) + 9.9 (B+) )and 6 credits (5.1 (C-) +8.1 (B-) and it dropped my sgpa from 3.0 ( grade s averaged) to 2.95 🙁

So, you really shouldn't stress much over how your grades are calculated: There is no material difference really between a 3.0 vs a 2.95.

You'll probably get rejected pre-interview either way 🙁
