From aapa I understand you must log at least 100 hours every two years...

Where do you get these hours?

How much do they cost, and does your employer pay for it or can you take it off your taxes?

And for any PAs out there, what do you feel you get out of the CME?

I see on aapa.org they have study at home classes, but they are only worth 1-2 credits... that would seem to take a long time! What is the best way to fulfill your obligation?

conferences can give you 30-40 hrs at a time over 1 week and are a great way to see parts of the country that you might not otherwise visit. most emplyers pay a certain # of dolars plus a certain # of days off with pay. I get a week off and $2000/yr. it is best to do your cme in the area in which you practice( in other words I mostly attend em conferences to keep up with the newest developments in the field).

Thank you emedpa!

I would like to work in an ER as well post graduation.

How was the PANCE?

How many times have you taken the PANRE, and how is that?

Thanks for your info, I am just trying to get as much of a heads up as I can.

pance was easy. so was panre. do pathway 1 panre( regular test), not the pathway 2 home study version which takes about 3 weeks vs 3 hrs for pathway 1.

PANRE involved mimicking a problem oriented PE as well as written when I took it. The written was ok, the PE was terrible. I've since done the recert and was embarressed taking it. I couldn't believe how superficial it was. I've heard that Pathway II is much more difficult. I'll take Pathway I every chance. They're are some great CME conferences out there (AAPA is not necessarily one of them). The AAPA journal is pretty good for CME as well. Don't forget to count BLS, PALS, ACLS, etc for cme.
