For pathology, how does the Goljan audio compare with Goljan RR and Pathoma in terms of comprehensiveness for step I? With 2 weeks to quick review pathology, which one's the best run thru?

If I remember correctly, Goljan was a week or more of 8hour lectures/day. It was great, but if you committ to the audio you won't have time to do much else. I'd probably run through pathoma or RR a couple of times rather than listen to the audio.

There is a audio transcript that goes along w/ his lectures about 100 pages long, if you don't have time, just look at transcript, it will probably save you 2/3 of time, give or take.

RR is too much before the exam, it is too detailed and contains a lot of low yield info, it might get you a couple of questions right on the exam, but it is not worth all the time put into it. I'd stick it w/ Goljan audio transcript or going over pathoma book. There is also Goljan Pathology Exam of 148 questions that you can take.

Yah, if you're bored or have some spare time, read that 600+ page RR book a couple of times 😀

If you want to try the audio, open it on VLC and crank up the speed and fast forward through where he talks about his kids or being a commando or whatever. Will save some time.

You can get through Pathoma pretty fast, so that's an option too.

Haha, well I'm assuming he's read it through a couple times already so it would go by quickly 😛

FWIW, I took a full week of studying to basically just listen to the Goljan audio and go through RR path simultaneously. There's a fair amount of low-yield info in RR path, but I felt like the book + the lectures gave me a great foundation -- I did this very early on in my studying and then went to the more traditional UWorld + FA crunching after.

If you have the time, Goljan audio is great. Definitely less info than RR path, though. I can't speak to Panthoma as I've never used it.

It's just 37 lectures of 50 min each, and cranked up speed it's not super long. I think I will stick with that and maybe do the path questions that came with the lectures.

For the 2nd run through of Uworld, is it possible to finish in 5 days doing all the questions? or should I just do the missed questions

200 UW would make for a tough day. Maybe try the ones you missed and then start on the ones you didn't miss. Build up the weaknesses as much as possible.

whats the big deal about pathoma honestly I've been through most of the lectures and they aren't amazing as some say, I definitely think Goljan is more conceptual and better for step 1. Pathoma would be good to review for the patho shelf since in goes though mostly topics, many not even in Goljan but still Goljan is more hi-yield in my opinion, not sure how much though since the audio's were recorded in 2003.

Are there a lot of errors in Goljan's audio lectures?

Yeah. Honestly his lectures are a little outdated (The set circulating around my class is about 10 years old). Also, some of the stuff he says has been proven wrong, or was just wrong to begin with, but really it's only about 10%, and none of the core concepts. I'd say it's a good bet for listening to while driving/walking, etc. Not as a really a core study resource (First Aid and UW are still your best bet there)

Yeah, agreed. I listened to Goljan audio and followed along with the slides back in December and January. I thought it was great then but now I'm almost done with Pathoma and see the difference. Pathoma is at least 10x better. It's basically the more up-to-date and complete version of Goljan. Even if Goljan audio was more recent, it still wouldn't be as good as Pathoma. The podcasts + the path book together are >>>Goljan audio. I still am glad I did Goljan audio, though, because most of his explanations are similar to Dr. Sattar's so it was basically a good review before I started FA and Pathoma now. I think having done Goljan audio made it easier for me to connect everything in FA together. Many say that FA lacks a lot of explanation, which is probably true but I generally found myself able to fully understand FA without looking up to much online since I randomly would recall explanations from Goljan. Now I'm topping it all off with Pathoma and it's great. Pathoma is definitely a lot more comprehensive than Goljan audio, and I don't think Pathoma is much longer either.

<2 weeks to go, too late to switch to pathoma lol, but thanks for the advice!

Na, you can still do Pathoma. I have 1 week before my test now, but...with <2 weeks left I started doing Pathoma again. I only did the first 1/3rd at most earlier in the month. I'll be finishing it on Sunday. So, 7 days and finished >2/3rds. And I didn't spend all day doing Pathoma, either. I've actually spent more time on UWorld in the past week.

However, I already did a super thorough pass of FA that took 3 weeks, so I already went over every detail of Step 1 material before doing Pathoma. I'm mainly watching the videos as a final path review since I'm starting to forget some of the details from FA. Pathoma has been a great review for this and to really reinforce everything. When I watch the videos, I follow along and take tons of notes in the book. Once I finish the videos on Sunday, then I'm gonna go through the book from front to back again during the last 5 days before my test. Gonna try to review all the non-path topics in FA in between.

Oh and btw, I did podcast all of them at 1.7x. If you haven't gone through FA yet once first, then I suppose 1.7x might be too fast. But if you're using it for a final review/refresher, should be fine at that speed.
