Ok so I'm a senior. Will graduate this year and looking for some dental research position. I currently have a 3.48 gpa (retook 2 courses) and hope to have above 3.5 by the time I graduate. I have over 700 hours research and 155 hours volunteering. I also have shadowed various doctors (in other fields besides dentistry) and one dentist for total of 60 hours. I'm studying for the DATs now. But my question is how does it look this far and what is the minimum I should strive for on the dats to be competitive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I should also add that freshman year was real bad for me but I've always trended upwards and since junior year my gpa average is a little above 3.9

What schools are you going to apply to? Look at the average scores for the schools you are interested in and shoot for above the average. For example if your dream school has an average DAT of 18 then you will want to try to get a 19 or better in order to have the best chance.

Im probably going to apply all over the place. Off the top of my head:temple,bu,tufts,Pitt,Colorado,Louisville, umdnj, nyu, unc, soth carolina,Virginia,Georgia, and few more.

I wouldn't apply to South Carolina, Colorado, or Georgia unless you are in-state for one of them. Just letting you know.

That's good to know. However I do have family in Georgia and Colorado. You think there's anyway around that so I can somehow do instate?

It's not a matter of in-state or out-of-state tuition. Their admissions heavily favor in-state people. I think both Georgia and South Carolina have like 90% or more of their class from in-state.

Sry moo I just realized. How can I change the title?

Dantemac, I understand it's not a matter of tuition. Was just asking if there's any way around putting my relatives address or something on apps so I can say I'm instate to have a better chance

You're in-state for one state. The state you're in.

partying hard = getting into dental school

Thanks to you both. I know I should shoot for a high Dat score in general but with my gpa what's a good competitive score? Thanks again.

Never mind I got it haha. I live in pa so I don't think there's much in state advantage. Do you think 19 is competitive in pa schools?
