Hi everyone! I will be applying to some online MPH programs for the Spring semester and I was wondering how will med schools view this? I will be applying to med school the Summer 2016 cycle. I know some med schools do not accept online course at all for prerequisites. I am really interested in the GWU online MPH, any input will be greatly appreciated!

I was not going to use the MPH specifically for MD admission, I always wanted to be an MD/MPH. I'm on a gap year right now, so I decided to pursue the MPH before applying. I just wanted to know if med schools will view the online MPH program differently from an in person MPH program.

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking about being viewed differently. They are both zero impact

Well, as has been stated, they already don't care about the fact that you will have an MPH, so it's irrelevant anyway

The MPH doesn't play much, if any, role in the GPA/Academic assessment, but it can be more beneficial during personal statements and future ECs. Having some extra time will also help give you opportunities to rewrite the MCAT if necessary.

But to do an online MPH............ even those in the MPH program hesitate to say how useful that is. Why would you do that to yourself over the real deal?

Its probably like an order of magnitude less expensive

The only reason why I am considering the online option is that I work full time at a research lab and I figured that since I have approximately two years free prior to attending med school, I should just get the MPH in the mean time. There's not any MPH programs nearby where I live and currently I am not able to afford to relocate right now.

Online MPH is not practical. You need field work/lab time to get requisite knowledge that the degree's coursework confers, and online courses don't get that done.

In the medical world, I highly doubt an online MPH would be accepted for jobs that require graduate training.

Even EMBA's have 3-4 weeks of on-campus curricula, and that program is far less hands-on/on-site heavy as most MPH's.

Dimly.
