If I majored in business can I take classes in other major departments, can I take pre-med prerequisites in the science department? Can I take upper-division classes in science if I take the prerequisites?

It depends on the UC and their departmental rules. At the UC I went to, yes you could enroll freely however, some of the classes you got last priority on and some you would just not be able to enroll in unless you were in the dept of biological sciences. As suggested above, the registrar/counselors of the depts. should be able to tell you the correct info.

Call the registrar - for prereqs like that it shouldn't matter. But for upper division courses, you'll likely have to be a science major or minor.

I went to Cal, so I can tell you how it works there. You basically are able to enroll in any lower div science course some may have requirements which don't stop you from enroll but will just make it difficult to do well.

For upper division the system changes so there are slots reserved for specific major that will get priority so that if you do not have that major you will not get a spot in those classes unless you register early

Yup, all pre-reqs are okay. If you want to take an upper div course tho, you might run into red tape. Don't know why you'd do that tho. Your going to be practically doing a major and 3/4.
