I have been searching on SDN for this answer and I am wondering if some of you guys could give me any information on how they did on the Comlex 2 after taking all of the comats that the nbome has put out for us to take?

For example I averaged >90 percent on the comats and made X on the comlex 2 type of scenarios.

I appreciate all and any replies to this post.

Thank you.

Ehhh the COMATs are pretty crappy exams, you will likely see scores all over the bloody place. But, to answer your question I scored around a 75%ish average overall and made a 688 on step 2.

Oh wow. Great score. What did you use study wise? I been scoring well on them(90s) so far and I am hoping I would break 600 on step 2 so I can hopefully breath a little easier trying to match into EM.

Kaplan videos and UWorld

Also:
Pediatrics- NMS Pediatrics
PSych- FA Psych
IM- Step up to medicine
Family Medicine- Blueprints
Surgery- Didnt read a bloody thing, but watched the kaplan videos
EM-No specific book, again kaplan videos

Just out of curiosity how do you guys get your scores?

We get a raw score then our school adds a hefty amount of points on top.

Is that standard, or are others stuck with the raw score? Also, just for future reference, when people post scores on here are they posting raw or curved (if applicable) usually?

No ideal. All we see is a percentage when the scores come back.

Do you get an official printed out form from the NBOME that has a percentage at the top with breakdowns of each category listed below?

That's pretty ridiculous to get 100/100 questions correct on the peds COMAT when the average is like 68 or so!

*Edit*: what did you use for peds? I take it in a few days and I'd love to do that we'll.

There is no way I got the all the questions right so their has to be a curve or questions thrown out. We see nothing from the nbome

NMS pediatrics is what I used. Also case files as a warm up

Yeah, so you must be getting the grade after your school manipulates it. I would contact your school and ask if you can get your raw score; otherwise, you're not really going to have a good idea of your true performance relative to the rest of the students in the country.

Yeah, that has to be your schools grade and not the raw score. Are they giving you a natl or school average when they report those scores.

Natl average when I took them are as follows
Peds 63.9
Surgery 64.5
Obgyn 70.9
IM 63.3
FM 69.3

People at the top of my class are thrilled scoring in the 80s...people are passing with scores in the 50s

This is encouraging...at the end of the week I will have taken all but my OMM COMAT and have been doing well above the national averages. I have very light rotations coming up in the next few months and a busy spring/summer. I am considering really cranking out step 2 studying over the next few months and taking it in February just to be done.

Teacherman, are you given the SD for those as well? We have only been given our percent correct; I have no idea of averages or SD.

They give us neither as far as school or national average it is literally a score that comes back but I am assuming it is curved(no averages shown it's just our score on edvance). We do have a good bit failing still though from what I hear.

Class rank is not a good indicator of a comat scores I would assume? On clinical exams I usually do very well(I think I missed like two on the last on prior to third year) but suck when you throw Omm and physio on an exam. My rank is top 1/3 of the class.

No, no SD...we've been told they will use those stats for determining honors and failing but are waiting until we have 6 months worth of data before they give it out.

No I'm guessing the top of the class is continuing to do well...thus a raw score in the 80s is great. Again, not positive but its what I've gathered talking to people in my class.

Just for the record there are two ways your score can be reported to you/your school. The first is the standard score:
" The Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Achievement Test (COMAT) is series of educational tools to assess the scope of knowledge for osteopathic medical school students at the end of their clinical rotation. The COMAT also provides a summative assessment of the student’s skills for clinical problem-solving. This Performance Profile reports a numerical standard score for the school mean and a graphic presentation for school performance on content areas. The standard score has a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 10. Relative to a national sample of examinees, a Total Score above 110 indicates a good performance or a good understanding of the major medical problem-related scientific knowledge for the subject. A score between 90 and 110 indicates an average performance, and a score below 90 indicates a below-average performance."

And the second is a raw score:
" This school-level Performance Profile reports average Percent Correct scores on the total test and content areas for the examinees in this school who took this exam on the same test date indicated above. The Percent Correct scores range from 0% to 100%. Scientifically-derived national norms are not available at this point. A Percent Correct score above 75 usually suggests an above average performance."

If you go to the nbome site you can find the two downloads explaining the two score reports.
http://www.nbome.org/comat4.asp?m=can
The links are at the bottom!

So my guess is the above person did not get a raw score of 100 indicating a perfect exam of no questions wrong but rather a standard score indicating average performance.

At this point who knows what my school has done. I am going to do like a previous poster advised and contact the testing department

Interesting, so far at my school we have gotten ~20% curve from raw to "final %". Or at least that's how it worked out for me on FM and Peds, will know OB/GYN soon enough.

Well I got my raw COMATs back finally. I have been scoring in the 80's consistently on my exams with psych being the lowest. From what I can come up with there seems to be about a 15% curve at my school and this seems exam dependent.

Hopefully the correlates to a good step 2 score......

Don't waste your time correlating comat to comlex step 2. They are different- comat is like step1 and comlex 2 is like, well you will find out - nothing like the comat.

What are you basing this on? Have you taken both the level 2 and all the comats?

I'm curious because I have been using COMQUEST level 2 question bank when studying for them thus far and it seems pretty on par.

I am wondering as well. I have talked to some fourth years who stated that the COMATs helped them know how to focus for step 2 and they were a good prep tool for them?

I took most of the COMATs last year and scored like this (raw scores):

FM: 74%
IM: 73%
Surg: 86%
OB/GYN: 84%
Peds: 70%

(My school didn't use the Psych or OMM COMATs)

COMLEX 2: 634

I'll have a more recent report in about 4-6 Weeks. I've done all COMATs except OMM and have been in the 70s (raw scores, consistently above the Natl average my school is reporting to us)
I had 2 really low key months of rotations and 2 Weeks of break that I have been studying and I'll be taking Level 2 tomorrow...very early, I know, but I passed a comsae before starting to study and scored in the high 500s on one this week. I was in the low 500s on step 1 and am not gunning for anything supercompetitive so well see how my COMLEX score turns out.

I did psych, gen surg and OB COMAT.
psych : 82%
gen surg : 84%
OB: 89%
COMLEX 2: 466 after a whopping 9 weeks of prep. Thus, it does not correlate. I think if you used the qbanks regularly, you would be more ready for the boards than looking at the comat scores. COMAT exams were, very easy compared to the boards.

I don't know about a score correlation but I disagree about the comats being easier...I think comats are on par with what I saw on comlex. Maybe your school isn't reporting raw scores but a 72% on surgery was enough above the Natl average that I got honors.

My school does not tell us what they did with the "raw" scores. So I have no idea.

I don't know and I don't really care anymore either. I just posted what I knew. It is up to you what you want to do with it. Good luck!

These scores are all raw. I took the COMATs last year before any data normalization happened and my school did not adjust the raw scores.

What did you use for the OMM Shelf? Is the green book + miscellaneous chapman points enough?

also for COMLEX Level 2 CE, i am thinking of a combo of Step up to step 2 (2nd edition) with DIT, UW, and Comquest. I am a big on consolidating sources, but is this enough? any other suggestions?
