How does the scramble work?

I'm current PGY - 1 resident looking to switch specialties, and just now starting my ERAS application (took me 3-4months of residency to realize I was in the wrong spot) So i feel like im behind and at a disadvantage to begin with. I may have to scramble post match.

How does it work? As I understand, the list comes out, and I call places to express interest. Do they mostly do phone interviews? Do they verbally accept you?

Any experiences or advice you can share would be appreciated 🙂
