It doesn't really make any sense to me that some schools are sending emails and making calls informing applicants of acceptances and other schools are waiting til the 3rd? Didn't the ADA specifically say to all schools that December 3rd was the first day ANYONE would hear back? How do they have so many malfunctions with the system and with schools not following the protocol? Doesn't this seem a little unprofessional?

And yes I am bitter that my schools are actually following the rules and waiting til Dec 3rd... 🙂

Haha I agree!! I'm happy for everyone that did get good news but damn!! I wanna celebrate already too!! Good luck tomorrow!

I know what you mean. I'm kinda bummed but we would definitely be singing another tune if our schools had been one of the early release ones haha. This weekend could not have gone by any slower!

It's a first for December 1st to fall on a Saturday. On the regular AADSAS portal, school decisions were withheld on Dec 1st. The mobile leak was an oversight.

It's unprofessional but certainly forgiveable. The AADSAS mobile portal is new this year after all.

Good luck RSalha!

Aren't schools free to do what they want as long as it's after Dec 1?

No. Schools agreed to notify on December 3rd this year. Basically for 2012 they made an agreement that December 3rd was the new December 1st, for this year only, due to 12/1 being on the weekend. Schools notifying early are in violation of the agreement.

In my opinion, there shouldn't have been a delay in the first place. Instead of making people wait an extra weekend. Why not move it to Nov. 30th? What would be wrong with that? Decisions are made and AADSAS updated before that day anyway.

The last time 12/1 was on a weekend was 2007. The system was probably different then? Did they still update the portal with decisions back then? Maybe they only sent emails or snail mail back then.

It's no big deal. The big day is essentially here. Just a few more hours.

Does anyone know why ADA makes d-schools do this? From what I understand, med schools can send out acceptances/rejections as they please?

I am thankful that the ADA has this rule. Think of the money on deposits people would waste?

From this prospective, it seems like a wise decision. But considering how much we have to wait, then it's another story 😛

med school has traffic rules, but i think their first date is in mid-oct

That's true, for early decision (which dental does not have) med schools can notify Oct. 1 and everyone else has to wait until Oct. 15th. But some schools choose to wait until December and some even wait until March (the non-rolling schools).

BU gets a big vote of appreciation and confidence for notifying on the right day and promptly at midnight. 👍

Ya I like the idea that they do it on December first because it really does save the applicants thousands if dollars. I know it is hard to be patient but I'm not really upset about having waited till the third, I'm more annoyed with the fact that every school didn't stick to the agreement, the whole "December 1st on a Saturday" situation kind of turned into a disaster, but I understand that all this isn't the easiest thing for schools either.

Good luck to everyone who interviewed, tomorrow we will know FOR CERTAIN if we will be a dentist in 2017 🙂

I am SOOOO annoyed that the two schools I interviewed with don't have an aadsas portal or a website to check the status of the application. SOOOO ANNOYYIINNGGGGG I DONT WANT TO WAIT TIL TOMORROW!

But... looks like i'll just have to be patient. Rats!

AHHHH same here! I feel your frustration! lol….but I still can't manage to stay off SDN!!

Time for bed or else it's gonna be a long night! Good luck tomorrow! Hope both of us will hear from Western in the morning!

I really don't care that some schools are notifying earlier. They should be like medical schools and notify ASAP.

Good luck to you guys too!

I'm not really nervous about hearing back from them, I just don't really know how they decide who to pick? They interviewed almost 100 people on the day I interviewed. I was the like the 25th person my interviewer saw that day, and he even told me that he was overwhelmed with all the applicants... It was just tough to tell how you compared to everyone else you know what I mean? I guess we will know tomorrow!

Definitely.
Also, they had about 6 interview dates or so .. so that is approximately 6x100=600 people for like, 70 spots :scared:

They actually interview around 550 applicants, but they also have post December interviews and I'm assuming that they probably interview around 100-150 people, so that leaves us competing with around 400 people... Still pretty crazy considering the numbers...

oops, sorry for the false information!

but still... 400 people :scared:

For either medical or dental school, you are given a fixed deadline, usually a month after the notice of your acceptance, to pay your deposit for holding your seat. For medical schools, that deposit costs $100. For dental schools, it's over $1,000. By enforcing a shared acceptance date on Dec. 1st (or Dec. 3rd), dental schools would not financially burden the applicants to pay for every deposit to every school they interviewed at and were accepted to, including the ones that are not their first, second, or third choices.

Here's a hypothetical example, say the system were set up like medical schools are and schools could send acceptances whenever they wanted but you had to pay for deposits that cost $1,000, not $100, and you still had to pay the deposit before 30 days or else your seat would no longer be held for you. If you have not heard back from your top choices, you would be like most reasonable applicants and want to play it safe by paying for every deposit to every other school that you did hear back from. But the problem is that a few acceptance and a few deposits can quickly cost thousands of dollars. For that reason, it is not set up that way for dental schools and ADEA spares us by holding off all notices of acceptances until after Dec. 1st or 3rd.

I think we should be notified the way medical schools notify their applicants. If we wanted to be notified ASAP like medical schools, we'd first have to reduce the deposit costs by a factor of ten.

I'm pre-pharmacy (stalking your forums bc my best friend is Dental) and it's a continuous rolling acceptance system. I know it's rough for some but I wish we had a date like you guys. I'm a prime example... My first interview was one of my lower choice schools. I attended and put down a deposit since it was my only school. Then I received an interview at a school that I liked better than the first, but not my top choice... Put a deposit down because I prefer it over my first. THEN I got one for my top choice, and put a deposit down. Still attending other interviews to be sure of my choice... but man it's a game! Good luck to you all 🙂

Our deposits are $500-1000 btw.

Well, it's still better than the United States voting system.
