Hey guys and girls....

Can someone explain to me how alternate list/waitlist works?? I have heard that the number of acceptances given out is equal to the number of spots available in the class. Then, who ever does not accept by a certain date, these remaining spots become available to people on the waitlists. Is this true or does it vary depending on the specific school? Any help is very much appreciated, thanks.

konner18,

#1) if you have a specific school in mind that you are posing this question for, then the very best thing to do is to ask that specific school's admission department... they will have the most appropriate and accurate answer for you...

#2) most school offer more acceptances than available seats... this is done because a significant portion of those offered acceptances will end up going to a completely different school. For example at Touro there are 125 seats in the class, but each year about 187 acceptances are granted. Beyond the acceptance pool is a ranked alternate pool from which selections are made if 125 people are not compiled from the 187 acceptances.

At Touro there is also an added twist of possible Early Acceptance if you were on the waitlist but not offered a seat in the class (with the rationale being that if you were a strong enough candidate to earn an interview, then more likely than not, you would be a successful student at Touro)...

The same is basically true for Wetern as well except that their waitlist is unranked and they do not have an Early Admission program (although they do have an Early Decision program that i am beating myself over the head for not taking advantage of)

Hopefully that makes everything as clear as mud... If there is anything else I can do, please just ask!!
