Just wondering how other schools handle Board Review? At KCOM we get free access to Kaplan Qbank, lectures, and etc..

We just got done having Dr. Lionel Raymon (he does the Pharm Kaplan video Lectures) this past week, I have to say he is awesome. I think I took down almost 80 pages of notes, and I definitely feel alot better about boards then I had the beginning of this week. He covered Biochem, Path, Physio, Pharm, Micro, Neuro and etc. I was told this was the first time in the history of KCOM that we actually had a week dedicated to Board review (4 days for 8-5 pm), usually Dr. Raymon does lectures on weekends. Not only is Dr. Raymon a great teacher but he also is a real nice guy, his french jokes are just killer!!! Just having this guy kind of made up for paying 40K in tuition here lol, well almost. I have to admit this week definitely gave me a boost, I was DRAGGING this past month. Just so sick of 2nd year, worrying about boards, dealing with stupid classes. I think everyone should get this guy or goljan for a week of board review.

So how about other schools, (I heard at MSUCOM they don't even get free access to KAPLAN), does your school provide resources for board review?

At UNE you're on your own. some professors do an hour or two of board review, but nothing formal. We have the absolutely horrible ExamMasters, which is less than worthless. And no time set aside for formal board review either. Some students could only get a date literally within 1 week of the end of classes.

And yet somehow my class managed a 96% first time board pass rate (and EVERYONE takes boards - NO ONE is held back or given preferential treatment, no pre-exams, etc).

Nova has both the access to all the Kaplan resources and Dr. Raymon. Actually, he comes in about five or six times throughout the year and does reviews over the systems we're covering and then does four full days at the beginning of May. I agree that he is completely AWESOME!! We also have access to the ExamMasters question bank through our library.

Nate.

At LECOM-Erie we have a "board review course". Basically, if you have a GPA >3.0 you don't have to come to any board review lectures (given by faculty) and if you have a GPA < 3.0 they are mandatory. In addition, everyone has to take a NBME comprehensive exam, NBME Microbiology & Immunology shelf exam, biochemistry exam (LECOM produced - comprehensive) & two mock board exams (200 questions each). If anyone fails the "final" mock board exam then they need to do additional board prep before they take the COMLEX, as the board review course is treated as any other course (i.e. if you fail you need to remediate the course). A discounted Kaplan course is also offered, but at an additional cost. The Kaplan Qbank (USMLE Qbank plus and the COMLEX Qbank) is given to all students at no additional cost.
