My school's just bothering me lately with their grading methods, and it makes me nervous re: application time. Vote in the poll? Thanks.

They're graded by evil, evil TA graders.

Mine are graded A-F but the labs are just a weighted portion of the lecture.

We just receive one grade, not separate grades for lecture and lab.

On what scale do these evil, evil TA graders grade? 😛

So far, I'm the only one who doesn't have a choice - my whole lab grade is P/NP, and there's no other option for it. What the heck?

P/F? Yea right, I wish!

Depends on the subject. Chemistry and biology I took at community college, where chem was one credit with a grade which was separate from the 5 credit lecture class (quarter system), and biology was 5 or 6 credits all lumped into one grade. I took first quarter of physics there too and it was 4 lecture credits and 1 lab credit, although there wasn't a real "lab" and we received the same grade for both.

At my university organic chemistry lab was separate from lecture, lab was 3 credits and lecture was 4, both received separate grades. Physics here is just one credit and pass/fail. I believe that at least chemistry works roughly the same as organic chemistry here, but I could be mistaken.

Letter grades. OChem labs were the easiest, like 90% got A's. While Bio labs were a beast.

that was the complete opposite of ours! bio lab was pretty easy, ochem lab had this evil director lady who used this horrible curve that worked against you. a maxmum of 10% could get A's-2nd semester i had a 90 something average but ended up with a b-, it was awful!

Physics, Biology: A-F, +/-, factored into total class grade
General and Organic Chemistry: A-F, +/-, separate grade from lecture, factored directly into GPA

Labs are graded from A-F with +/-. Also graded on bell curve distribution so approx 13% get A's and so on. The difficulty really depends on the TA and I've found that my grade is mainly based on how well I do on the midterm and/or final. The lab grade is also separate from lecture and it's a 1 credit course.

Labs suck.

Lab grades are factored into overall course grade.

Our gen. chem and o.chem labs are factored into the lecture's grade and are worth the same as an exam. They are also normalized which really sucks. If the class average is above an 85%, your grade gets lowered until the class average is around 85%.

A lecture is 1000 points with 250 points being for the lab. Labs are graded separate as pass/fail (>60% for pass) and the points earned in the lab are factored into the overall lecture grade.

Chemistry: Pass/Fail
Biology/Physics: incorporated into lecture grade
