do YOU get your scores after you finish the DAT?

i understand it takes 3-4 weeks for it to be sent out to schools, but i was wondering if we get the scores upon finishing the exam, that way i can enter my score on my DAT app and submit my application :xf:

lol. still don't want to take my advice, huh?

you get a score printout immediately after your exam. thus, if you haven't submitted yet, then you can type in your scores on your app and then submit. OR, you could take the smarter option and submit earlier without typing in your scores and say when you're taking the test. then after you take the test, you can take that printout and fax your scores to the school so they have an unofficial copy on hand. this eliminates some waiting time by sending your app in to aadsas a week or two earlier than waiting to submit just so you can put your scores in.

think about it. how much difference is it going to make to adcoms if they see your scores on your app versus having a faxed copy, either without an official copy? none. hence, that's why you shouldn't wait to take your dat to submit your app.

i really don't get what you're not understanding.

Schools with accept a faxed copy like that? Really?

from what i've read from many posts, they will, but not as a substitute to your official score report. i believe it's more like they'll take a peek at you while waiting for the real thing to come in.

kneecoal is right. after the test, you go through a quick survey about the quality of the testing environment....

then BAM...scores.

I remember my screen froze and I didn't get my scores. So I was sitting there for a good 5 minutes waiting and waiting...I swear I was going to have a heart attack.

Hahaha i was shaking so bad... while the stupid screen was loading the scores.. then when i saw my scores.. i started doing some crazy fist dance 🙂... im sure the person monitoring the exam room thru the surveillance camera had a great laugh.

LOL I think it's good to be the most nerve wracking 30seconds (or however long it takes) of my life.

Yeah I got the whole idea, and I'm not doubting you at all (you obviously know more than I do about the process), but that doesn't seem like a weird thing to do? It's like, here I know this doesn't count as the official copy and you're getting that anyway, but I wanted to let you know, I did good.

I don't know it's hard to explain what I'm trying to say. It seems, for lack of a better word, sort of "desperate", ya know? If I'm totally off the mark here, let me know.

just out of curiosity.. i know for the MCATs or something when you take the exam and get the score, you can chose for it not to count.. so your score is never submitted, and it looks like you never took the exam. does DAT have this too?

i know what you're saying, but it's just something i've read about the others doing. i haven't taken the test yet myself (2 weeks!), but the way i think is if they'll at least take a peek at you that much sooner, it's better than waiting those extra weeks.

Good point. I thought that too but I keep getting these mixed feelings. First I was on boat with that, but then I thought...If I do well, I should get in, so what am I even accomplishing by submitting the unofficial copy early?

How long do they take to get there anyway?

takes 3-4 wheels for schools to get the scores i believe...

Yes! You will get a printout of your scores at the end of your test!

Why wait till you get your scores?
Go ahead and submit your application ASAP. You can always go back and enter your DAT scores later.
And yes, you can fax your scores to school, but that wouldn't make much difference, because they wouldn't make any decisions about your application until they see the "official" scores.

that loading moment was driving me nuts! i was so anxious to see my grades! and the first thing that caught my eyes was my AA score, and it was very pleasant... great relief after the test! like a great night with a happy ending ,if u know what i mean.

That's the answer I was looking for. You're sure on that?

I'm pretty sure you're better off if you submit your application as early as possible, and I'm pretty sure your faxed scores won't do much in terms of admission decisions. It might simply show the school that you've taken the DAT, but by no means will they trust those scores to make a final decision about your application. Some schools even ask not to send anything (LORs, Transcripts, Faxed Scores, etc) to their admission office unless specifically asked by an adcom.

Yes you're better off sending your application in now and state that you will retake your DATs in the future. There is a place in your application for that, thus dental schools will wait on the latest scores before making a final decision.

what if it's my first time taking the DATs?

im almost completely done with my application,, my DAT is on July 29th in the afternoon..

i was thinking i should send in my application now.. and fax my DAT scores to each school individually on the 29th when I get home.. also I would sign onto my online application and update it

good plan? or i can wait and submit my application on the 29th when I get home from the DAT exam.. I just want everything in before August 1st so it can still be considered "early"

OK! Not quite sure which part of "You should submit your application ASAP" you don't get?!
Each day you post a question here you're delaying your application and that's NOT GOOD!!

Do NOT delay e-submitting your application. I submitted on the 2nd of June and didn't pay until the end of June. I JUST got scheduled to be sent next Friday. It is only the third batch, but it still took a long time. Turn it in ASAP, then focus on your test! GL
