Hey, I'm an MSIII about to embark on the glory of 4th year.

I'm going into Internal Medicine and thinking about applying to several places, and I was wondering how good are away rotations on apps, since I can only take up to 2 away electives, and I was planning on trying to do some overseas mission work, as well as bone up on some core electives here at home.

Just looking for input , thanks.

depending on how you did in your 3rd year medicine clerkship, either do a sub-i in medicine early or late. if you did well 3rd year, i would push the sub-i later, if you did not do as well, i would do your sub-i early do it will show on your transcript.

as far as away rotations are concerned, they can help for those programs that may be a reach for you. i would recommend doing a couple at places that you really would like, but may not get an interview otherwise. try to get your away rotations done before interview time.

the overseas stuff can wait until after interviews/match. no need to rush with those electives.

Thanks for the input. I'm still sifting through programs. As it turns out, it's basically either/or - Either I do away electives or I take a month of MICU or ER or subspecialty medicine.

It's just crazy, so I'm trying to get through all this before my vacation next month. Thanks again.
