So I am closing out my senior year at a State University. My first two years gpa is not great, mostly because I got caught up in typical college "shenanigans" with my collegiate football teammates. My cGPA should be about a 3.68 with a sGPA of about 3.62 by the end. I Picked up more credits my junior and senior year to build my gpa up more. My years go as follows:

High school (college courses 34 credits): 3.4
Freshman year(27credits): 3.37 (Fall= 3.38/Spr=3.36)
Sophomore year(27credits): 3.3 (Fall= 3.41/ Spr=3.21)
Junior year(38credits): 3.83 (Fall= 3.77/Spr=3.89)
Junior year(11credits): 3.89 (Summer)
Senior year(40credits):3.85 (Fall=3.8/ Spr=3.9)

So I guess my questions was how does a trend like that rack up against consistent 3.9 students throughout college? Obviously my cGPA will be lower, but will committees look at this trend and say I am just as capable as a 3.9 student just "messed up" in my earlier undergraduate years? Or will I be looked at it as having a sub par GPA and therefore not being competitive when put up against the consistent 3.9cGPA students?

Thanks!

You wouldn't be considered a 3.9 student. They would probably give you some slack for a slow start to college, and consider you a 3.7 - 3.8ish (especially since you never broke 3.9).

okay yeah I understand your logic behind that. I did not mean like a hard 3.9 student, I guess my question was would I be seen as equal to a GPA that is paralelled with my ending GPA, so like a 3.7-3.85ish rather than "your a 3.6 student and thats that". Thanks for the response!

Rising GPA trends are always good, and many med schools weight the last 203 years more than the entire cGPA even.

You should consider yourself a 3.8-3.9 student, and you have my admiration for turning things around. We love come from behind stories, after all.

Awesome! Thank you so much goro! Means alot coming from you!

I was in a pretty similar situation as you when I applied this cycle. Freshman year gpa was 3.1 but I finished undergrad with cGPA 3.61 and sGPA 3.56

I've gotten 6 interviews so far and 2 were at places where I'm in the 10-15% cGPA percentile

I think if you can crush it on the mcat, you will be a very competitive (in terms of numbers) applicant
