Just DO it and stop asking how hard everything is. You're trying to become a medical doctor. Pretty easy...nope...it's hard. MD or DO...hard. Getting into competitive specialties? Yep, you guessed it. Hard. Is it harder for DOs to get into MD residency programs? Yep, you are a DO, not an MD. Is it hard for MDs to get into DO residencies? Yep...at the moment, it's impossible. If you are pre med, you have years before you will be realistically thinking about specialties and your interests, the climate of medicine and competitiveness for various specialties might be different than what they are now.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you want to become a physician...it's better you understand this concept before you start asking about specialties and such, you need to realize it is hard. How hard? Pretty hard. If you're the type that worries about how hard everything is then this may not be the career for you.
Ok, carry on.
