How has your life changed with COVID

How has my life changed with COVID....

Had an appointment for my annual drug-screen a week ago per school rules and thought "I'll take the wife and kids with me just to get them out of the house. Matter of fact I'll treat the kids to a McDonalds drive-thru on the way back home." As I go for my drug test at a LabCorp facility, I leave the family in the truck as I finish my appointment. 15 - 20 minutes later I approach my truck with a stranger spitting, cursing, & banging on the passenger window telling my wife "Everyone's F***'d.... embrace it!" My daughter & son are crying in the back seat...

I consider myself a calm individual but what do you assume when a stranger seems threatening to your family?

I assumed he had the coronavirus and decided to deal with it (more like I used COVID-19 as an excuse). Cops were called, stranger was put in an ambulance, and I checked myself at the nearby hospital to be tested. Now I find out I'm getting charges pressed against me.

That's what I get for leaving the house.

The process is actually extremely easy

I know right? Some Rite Aids have done delivery for years before CVS and Wags did. Idk why everyone thinks the idea was new and groundbreaking.

I would "self defense" that guy too assuming he wasn't 6'5" and 300 lbs.

Getting corona'ed is less likely than getting accosted by freakin whackjobs and white trash barkers in the parking lot. They literally bark like DMX

Looking forward to seeing Walmart attempt to limit the # of shoppers at clownshow Supercenters.

Yeah if that isn't a recipe for carnage, I don't know what is..... Maybe they'll have the half-wit greeter (or ANY store manager) tell jokes to placate the resulting angry mob...

It's EBT week and it was your typical **** show. LMAO at the concept of social distancing working at these types of stores.

Anyone worry that your hours would be cut?
[/QUOTE]
Starting to hear hospital pharmacists getting their hours cut.
Yes, we are starting to get furloughed by our hospital. Not sure if furlough is exactly the right word. We are being forced to use up our vacation time though.

I'm not ordering take-out/delivery food every other day. Actually, not at all. I know the experts claim there is no evidence that COVID can be transmitted via food....but even if that were true, it sure could be transmitted on the packaging and bags.

Well it's becoming very clear that many elderly people are incapable of doing simple things like ordering something online (unable to set up delivery for Rxs and expect myself and my staff to painstakingly do it for them whilst getting slammed constantly with phone calls asking if something is in stock for store front items).

Baby Boomer @$$ wiping, fear, anxiety, etc. @ an all time high...yeah, keep asking my staff (only half left, others on leave, pending test results) for favors and continue working the few of us to death.

Difficulty communicating with people is at an all time high....facemasks, mumbling, physical plexi-glass barriers, people overly panicked (ok sir, mam, calm the F down...first, what is your name/DOB?) speaking a mile a minute and wanting someone to vent to (lack of contact from isolation, quarantine). FFS go start a blog/vlog, etc. (no one in pharmacy has time to listen to your life story)

That’s so disingenuous....we’ve been told to maintain staffing and use that extra time to prep for the expected surge in 1-2 weeks.

We’re technically staffing up next week running tests/drills and prepping medical units for ICU-level of care (redeploying ADC, reviewing drugs going in there, etc...)

Hope your hospital already did all that :/

Was it a crazy person?

Race related? People are attacking Asians now

What charge? Ridiculous.

Umm...I hate to break it to you, but you are pretty much in the Washington DC suburbs. If that scares you, don't try to go into actual Appalachian West Virginia.

Lol.

I'm quite familiar with overt racism in rural town. Yeah, it's close enough to the Beltway that it really should not be a problem (Ashland is more that sort of place), but we were all shocked how poorly everyone got treated in town. There's now a company outside assigned as guards for this reason, and we get escorted into town if we have business or get supplies from Maryland bypassing the Beltway. 5 minutes and all that, though I'm also Asian which also causes conflict as they think I'm a carrier.

preach!!!! Lol

The hiring process for a new grad has not changed. Still trying to find a job, cannot find anything. I thought COVID-19 would help increase demand for pharmacists. Nope.

New york needs help

You have to be making this up. It's not freaking Welch or Logan. Literally the consulate workers of several African nations used to live in Harpers Ferry and take the train into DC back when I lived there. And you need a guard to go to Walmart? What the hell weird ass town did they put you in?

Healthcare workers layoffs:

Every single field is being effected by COVID-19. The government is either going to have to let people go back to work (and potentially spread COVID-19 faster) or come up with more welfare for everyone (rent/mortage furloughs, have the FED print up a bunch more money, etc.)

Serology is the new buzz word but widespread antibody testing isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Replied in PM, and not Walmart, but the town is quite different than your last experience. It's not a weird town either, there happens to be a VA hospital there too, but even the locals are commenting about how different the atmosphere is.

I'm hearing more things like this. Local hospitals putting people on furlough and reducing pay, larger health systems laying off employees. Meanwhile my institution says it is business as usual.

How did they let you know? Did you have any suspicion that it was coming or was it just suddenly announced?

I just don’t get it, they’re gonna get panic phone calls asking them to come back to the hospital ASAP cuz 1/4 of staff called out and covid pt’s are coming in the door.

The thing is a lot of staff are simply not cross-trained. The orthopedic surgeons/nurses can't take care of patients in the ER or ICU. The cardiac rehab staff aren't ACLS trained to work in the ICU. A floor gets converted to another ICU; all those nurses are now unable to work on their floor.

This applies to pharmacists as well who don't have a hybrid model. Some of our OR and clinical pharmacists haven't really staffed in years. Now we're having to cross-train them as back-up so they don't lose hours.

It was suddenly announced by my director, but it wasn’t really a huge surprise to me. These are hospital-wide cuts, not just pharmacy. We had financial struggles before this but it was always a pretty busy little hospital. To suddenly go from that level of busyness to an extremely low census every day, plus no elective surgeries...it just didn’t seem like it was going to end well.

They do have meetings every day regarding Covid-19. No drills or anything like that though. I expect if a surge hits, everyone will get called back into work. They did do cross-training of RNs, not sure about anyone else. There are only a few pharmacists here, so we all do everything already. Cross-training would be a moot point for us.

(Sorry late reply) I was in a "venting" mood a few days ago but the details are not as bad as I may have made it seem. The individual looked about my age (30's) and was a thin tall black guy about my height give or take (6'2) but weighed half a feather. Not sure if I would present it as a racial act against my wife even though she is originally from French Polynesia (unless the flower being worn above her left ear was some sort of trigger).

Yes, he had to of been on something with blood shot eyes and slurred speech. The ambulance was called because when I charged at him I lowered my shoulder into his chest as hard as I could. When he hit the ground he claimed his wrist was broken and that his chest was in a lot of pain. Apparently the facility staff saw what happened and without knowing the details just saw me attacking a bystander by my truck and thus was the story the police took.

Aggravated assault charge was dropped after some details were sorted out. Apparently this individual has had past issues but I no longer wanted to get involved once I was cleared a couple days ago. Wouldn't know how to approach this since the court houses are shutdown (Kids never got that McDonalds happy meal).

People are getting crazier by the day...I blame the isolation/quarantine/pent up idleness/lack of activity/boredom/frustration/lack of freedom. Weird times right now; on one hand, a lot of people have been waaay more grateful, understanding of circumstances, and respectful while a pack of crazy few have gone into full "ape$H!t" mode. Bipolar times

Unfortunately a good % of people are monkeys with clothes. However many are already put on socially approved tranquilizers.

I'm gonna be getting 80 hours of overtime a month until the mayhem calms down or unless we get premixed morphine, fentanyl, midazolam, hydromorphone, norepinephrine drips (all on backorder). So an extra $10k a month until this calms down.

Asides from more shifts, and not being able to sit and eat at a restaurant, nothing much has changed about my life. I smoke hookah at home now, Netflix on the smart TV, play some CSGO.

I guess the most devastating effect the coronavirus has had on me was the baseball season being put on hold.

Oh and coronavirus did something that I was never able to do, it got my gym to put my membership on hold without actually having to come in person to fill out forms.

Another golden Sparda post...always about the profits and focus on self worth. Thank you for not giving into the insanity and remaining true to yourself, LMFAO

Although I am disappointed Sparda has not set up a "lemonade stand" selling isopropyl/ethyl alcohol, facemasks, gloves, PPE, etc. outside of shops afterhours and price gouging due to the whole desperation

Shows a lot of mental fortitude not be phased one iota and remain calm, composed, and rational (in your ordinary mindset that is)

Wait come back, there's more.

Also, it's now socially acceptable to wear masks, bandanas, keffiyehs in public and completely hide your face. It's hilarious when I walk into a supermarket and it looks like I'm about to rob the place.

After Hurricane Sandy, I always made sure to have like a week of food and water for the family in storage and I have quite a nice collection of first-aid/essential meds for emergencies. When I ran out of alcohol, I just went to the liquor store, bought some 95% Everclear, and diluted it to make enough alcohol spray for myself.

I didn't want any part of that week where everyone was scramble buying. I'd wager my OT money that most people in the USA got infected while doing their panic shopping.

The hardest part about this has been not being able to come near my grandparents.

I'd rather go through a pandemic than a hurricane, earthquake. Those 5 days without power, internet after Hurricane Sandy were hell.

Affordable KN95 masks available online if the cheapo surgical masks CVS provides aren't doing it for you.:

100% working from home, along with my wife. Try to have our teleconferences without the other person's call noise interfering. Miss going to the gym, our weekend restaurants, and going to lunch with coworkers. Our dog seems thriled though.

Interfacing with the public, I do notice more hypochondriac behavior like demanding the pharmacy staff wear masks and whining about lack of X Y and Z. Yes, the signage says we are a Concierge Desk, not a Pharmacy. Get in line

Many of our double-digit IQ customers are getting more aggressive, even ones I wouldn't expect to throw F-bombs like the entitled punks they are. Bro, you on Medi-Cal your whole pathetic life... come on. If not for the succor of the state you would be dead. Dead.

My team always handling business with grace though. TBH I don't even know how they brush it off as I normally go off on these clowns and make them apologize or transfer out if not for these jagoffs walking away while I'm dealing w/ other crap

Been a while since this thread has had a post....well I've decided to build a home GYM seeing as how gyms have been closed for 4 months+ now where I am @ (actually reopened 1 day or so ago, with a bunch of PIA caveats of having to sign in/reserve a time, etc.). I still plan on going for the social aspect of the gym but plan on cancelling my membership once I get my home gym pimped out and customized so I can invite friends, colleagues, neighbors, and local gym rats I hang out with from time to time)

#Gym rat 4 life

Other DIY project I've got on the agenda involves pimping out/upgrading my home office and my all mighty "super desk"

Anyone excited for their second corona-check

Oh wait.

Since this was brought back alive, everything is back to normal at the wagrxm2000 home.

Canceled a vacation to the Finger Lakes wine country in May. Bummer. Saving a fortune. Wife worked from home for the last semester of school so no gas, Not eating out as much......

Sounds like no hazard pay for dealing with the degenerate public in CARES 2.0.

My techs wouldn't turn down even $5k

LMAO at 10k in private student loan forgiveness though as that was DOA. Get ****ed if you refinanced just for a lower rate

Umm...I hate to break it to you, but you are pretty much in the Washington DC suburbs. If that scares you, don't try to go into actual Appalachian West Virginia.

Lol.
Lmfao

In like 2005ish Got lost driving out in Virginia somewhere n started seeing confederate flags pop up. Right about then I made a uturn and just drove back home lol. Also, had an interview years ago in W Virginia. Yup, racist....

Still working from home. Looks like that might be the case for rest of 2020. Miss the office and occasional happy hour. Pretty much fell in with all the pandemic trends...toilet paper, bike, and other stuff....all justified by cancelled vacation.

This year has been depressing.. Taken weeks of vacations just to stay home. Couldn't plan big trips for the fear of flight cancellation/ attractions shutting down. It's wearing me off..

I enjoy the little things like actually seeing the western Sierras not in the winter (reduced haze means you can see from ground level depending where you are in the valley), shorter commute, loss of scripts. Walmart laid off people at Home Office. Wonder if it'll hit the lower field management peons too

You can tell there is more social angst, like this Karen gesticulating wildly while tailgating me as I was driving around Lake Tahoe a few weeks ago. LMAO I ain't going any faster when there's vehicles in front of me

Hope this flu shot season isn't a total shambolia

Walmart will always have an image problem with the moral effetes. I don't think they would care about image issues.

I wouldn't be surprised if certain SCs and GM stores get converted into 100% microfulfillment centers. That would then close off those stores to the trash public and eliminate pharmacy from those locations. We all know Walmart Care Clinics will never be put in trash areas
