So there are quite a few additions to first aid 2014 compare to 2013 edition .. So i was wondering are these additions important? or are they just some low yield stuff just to make people buy a different book?
I will give couple of examples:
They added this to unhappy triad/knee injury in musculoskeletal:
Anterior drawer sign Ž ACL injury
ƒPosterior drawer sign Ž PCL injury
ƒAbnormal passive abduction (valgus stress)
Ž MCLinjury
ƒAbnormal passive adduction (varus stress)
Ž LCL injury
ƒMcMurray test: pain on external rotation
Ž medial meniscus; pain on internal
rotation Ž lateral meniscus

Thank you

It's all a conspiracy to make you purchase a best-selling invaluable resource. You should decide on what's high-yield by yourself based on your vast experience.

I'm in the same situation. I guess its better to just buy the 2014 edition? Any suggestions? I have the 2013 FA, I'm starting to have second thoughts

I agree with the notion that anything they added is because students who recently took the exam saw questions on those topics. While I haven't seen every difference between 2013 and 2014 yet, I have noticed that some of the new figures in the book seem to make things easier for me to understand.

Given the fact that FA is a relatively cheap book, and anybody planning on taking the exam in april-july reading this is gonna use the book more in the next few months than they have in the past 1.5 years, I would have to recommend getting the latest edition.

The biggest change seems to be increased explanation of already presented concepts, newly reorganized diagrams here and there, and the addition of a FEW new facts scattered throughout. I've noticed a lot of stuff is pretty much lifted straight from Pathoma (bless the based Dr. Sattar). The information is mostly the same, but it definitely seems to be a better book compared to 2013. The focus seems more calibrated towards the latest exams administered, which is nice. Honestly, probably not essential if you have 2013 and have notated it extensively already.

Amazing to me people who question paying another $45 for a book, after paying nearly six figures for medical education tuition, medical textbooks, equipment, etc. It's such a small drop in the bucket it's not even funny.
