Long time lurker, 1st time poster.
I dont know what to say i just received my score wednesday and have been drinking ever since so I don't really know how this is going to come out..
Im so happy. So so happy. This is the first time in my life Ive really ever done anything right in regards to Medicine, being a doctor etc..
I was going to quit and do something else, esp after just barely passing Step 1. I feel like as students we are nothing more than our score to these residency directors.
Anyways I knew I had to do some prophylaxis. I basically took a Kaplan course, then studied 12 hours a day and then I actually took a IM board review course by Dr. Fischer via Kaplan.
I don't care so much about residency as much as I care about having this score with me for the rest of my life and proving to myself that I can actually accomplish a goal. The last 2 years have really been depressing, walking through my clinicals knowing im a sub par student because of my Step 1 score.
It became my mission to Destroy Step 2. So I became very goal oriented and psychotic. Hey the neurotransmitters are the same so whats the difference?
I basically did World 3 times. I cant stress how amazng this source is. Not only did I have repeats but it felt exactly the same. Even random crap from world was on my exam. Not only did I do it 3 times during a period of my own mania but I took detailed notes on every question.
Kaplan course. Its worth it. No one taught me $hit in clinicals. You know why? Because Attendings do things one way, and the boards want you to do something else. I had great teachers for Step 1. But Step 2, my friends you are on your own. You can't just read how to manage a patient, you need to be taught by the right people. At least I do. I was a pretty mediocre student until last wednesday when I got my grade 🙄
The IM board review course by C.Fischer. Amazing. Gets into 3rd and 4th steps of management! This stuff was on my exam. No i don't work for Kaplan. It just worked for me. And yes I paid even more money.
Thats about it. Never used FA, Crush, Secrets, but did use all Kaplan books. They were my texts. Read the IM book maybe 6 times, the Peds book twice, OB 3-4 times, Surgery twice (every trauma case imaginable was on my exam), and I was a Psych Major in college so I didnt even open that one. I had 4 biostats q's on my whole exam.
So ya.. some of you guys read FA once and get 270. Im not one of those. In fact I thought I had a learning disorder after my Step 1 score. But I scored high 90s on this one. Anyways, been drinking since 😍 😀 😛
