Hey friends,

So at the age of 27 I managed to get into medical school. Initially I was very happy. I moved to a city, 3 hours by train away from my family.. In the last 2 months I was just trying to figure out how to study my best. But got pretty overwhelmed and I'm still figuring it out. I feel that everyone is doing better even though I would not consider myself dumb.
The day I moved here I met my boyfriend, and since I'm a bit older than my classmates I haven't really made friends yet.. Even though I want it. I broke off my relationship last week too.

So now I've been having a constant racing heart, lightheadedness, no appetite, stressful feeling all over my body. These physical symptoms just don't seem to stop, it's been 2 weeks now..and it's all day long. It's that bad I can't sit down for 2 hours to study..

So... Is this anxiety?
My blood pressure seems fine.
What is your advice guys?

go see your primary care doctor or your psychiatrist, or school counselors. Its ok to get help once in a while especially when you are trying to keep yourself going for medical school.

I'm sorry you have been dealing with all that these last few weeks. It can be hard in medical school (and beyond) to take care of ourselves. Unfortunately SDN can't provide medical advice beyond recommending that you go see your PCP-most schools have accessible student health professionals, I'd expect you could make an appointment to see them tomorrow.

Aside from the great advice above, I can add that you are not alone. I am 28 and constantly feel like everyone else is in a different place than me. I also feel like everyone in the class is more connected and does better on tests than me. I’ll bet that the majority of your classmates feel the same way you do! We’ll get through it together.

Health issues are poorly managed on an anonymous internet message board. Get to a doctor ASAP.

Cant give medical advice, but I will say I had very similar symptoms for a few months my first year. Saught out help from a therapist as well as picked up meditation and several other coping mechanisms that helped a ton. Best of luck OP, seeking out help from a professional is your best bet!
