This question has been asked several times recently. The consensus seems to be that they are probably rather far down the list of import, after things like board scores, clinical grades, references, research.

According to Rules of the Road (an EM residency book), basic science grades aren't even in the top 10 on the list of factors that residencies look at.

Isolated they may not be important but it will effect your overall class rank...

100% agree w/the above poster, they are not important on their own, but they influence:
1)Class Rank
2)AOA nomination

Both of which are very very important, so in other words, work your A$$ off, get good grades, both during pre and clinical years.
