How important is it to apply early? and is it considered late to apply now?

not at all. applying early just helps you beat any rush...kind of. it seems like you can get interviews sooner=acceptances sooner. right now, i don't think it really matters when you apply, just as long as you do it before any deadlines i.e 2 weeks before classes start. i think in the next few years as applications increase applying early may become a little more important. maybe.

It certainly isn't considered to be too late if you applied now...but I would get going as soon as possible. There are a limited number of spots that the schools for each class. Getting your app in early, increases your chances of being accepted. DO NOT wait til 2 weeks before the deadline or you will find yourself applying for the next school year.

yes, 2 weeks a little slim. but, 2 months maybe not. my friend said iowa still had a seat or two 2-3 months out. last year? true??

Applying early can help you get a scholarship. If you can apply early and serious about podiatry, why wait?

don't wait. should a person choose to wait, it wouldn't be detrimental, until about 2 months(ish) out. some schools don't offer first year scholarships, etc. but i agree, why wait..

Not true. They fill in late winter/early spring. They still interview and an occasional seat may open (family emergency, ect) but by Feb/Mar the class is full.

If you are planning on retaking the MCAT should you submit your application now or wait until the results? Any advice would be great

yes. submit, especially if you already have an mcat score. it might be good enough...you never know. you can always call the schools and get a little direction from them. the latest i have heard is that with a gpa above 3.0, a 19 or better on the mcat is sufficient. don't take that to the bank, but you may be suprised and not have to retake. the app is not expensive, so i would throw one in as soon as you can.

Considering the surge in applicants this year, I would appy now. Two years ago you might be able to get by applying later on, but things have changed recently.

I don't mean to add any stress to you pre-pods, but like was already stated, there is a limited amount of seats for a larger pool of applicants.

Good Luck.

anyone know a rough estimate of the number of applicants this year?

The surge is only really seen at a few schools, as some schools still don't have that "huge" applicant pool due to "recent" CPME accreditation, etc. That should change in the future (within 5-10 years).

When I talked to the Dean of admissions to podiatry at DMU, Dr. Yoho stated that they only do 100 interviews and accept 50 people. The stats suggest that they have accpeted up to 62. Last year it was 55. So that may be something to consider as to when applying.

hey guys,

has anyone been accepted or interviewed with a DAT score?
thanks,
dan

My application is currently not complete at the schools, as I still have to submit my LORs and transcripts. However, I will let you know what happens.
