How important is it to retake pre-reqs if I do better in harder classes?

I have quite a few C's in my prereqs, but I've taken higher level Biology courses (300/400 level) that I've aced. Would it be seriously detrimental to leave those Cs if i take higher level science courses to boost my GPA over 3.0 rather than retaking those classes? I do I have a C- and F I will be retaking now that I have personal issues figured out, but other than that I would much rather finish out the rest of my degree taking 400-level Biology courses rather than going back and doing those classes again. Will schools look down on this?

If you do well in harder science courses it will redeem your struggles in pre reqs. From what the wisdom of @Goro ; many schools reward reinvention. So if you do well in harder classes you'll be good. And by well I mean as many As as possible .

Just be sure you know you'll perform better in these courses! Good luck!

I've already aced a couple classes and have probably a year and a half of classes/retakes that I'm doing to bump my GPA over a 3.0, so hopefully with 3ish semesters of ~4.0 GPA they will see that I really have changed. 🙂

Concur, and good luck, OP!

you are literally me.

I bombed A LOT of my pre-reqs but got all As (a few A-s) in all my upper dives for both my majors.

you'll be totally fine!

I also did a post -bacc just in case but in all reality I think an upward trend shows your commitment/ability to handle hard courses.

Haha, I'm (sort of) the opposite! I've gotten A's and B's and my GPA has stayed around a consistent 3.6 after transferring from a CC to UCSD. However, last quarter I was part time for course work because I was doing my final prep for my MCAT, and completing my research thesis. I realized I couldn't do it all with my first unfortunate "w". I only have 4-6 more classes left to show AdComs that I'm okay and my consistency for performing well has not dwindled. My grades did not drop however. All the courses I did were UD science and I received A's and B's.

I feel like I'm being neurotic (as always) but I always want to prove to myself that I can do better and/or I haven't gone off the deep end just yet.
