Most of the dental schools I have seen do not require Human Physiology but recommend it. I was wondering what your opinions are on taking the lab along with it? I have the option of taking both or just the lecture. How important is it that I take the lab as well? Thanks!

I believe that physiology is required for Midwestern.

It might help you on the DAT (a good amount actually).
But it's not too important I think. Check the schools you plan to apply to and see if it is a requirement.

Several schools that I applied require (human) anatomy and/or physiology, so I ended up having to register for a course that lasts two semesters and covers both starting this fall.

Also, some schools require/recommend one semester of psychology, so make sure you have that covered if you are interested in those schools.

Thank you for your replies everybody. But my question was about the Physiology Lab not Physiology Lecture. I have the option of taking just the lecture or the lecture and lab. I am aware of which schools require/recommend Physiology.

I would just like to get feedback on whether it is worth it to take the lab in addition to the lecture in terms of thoroughly learning Physiology and in terms of whether or not the lab will be much of an advantage on my application.

Thank you.

Hey Rick: In my opinion, physiology lab is pretty important in learning physiology, not only will you learn to read EKG and EEG graphs, you will also learn how to calculate tidal volumes. We dissected an earthworm and a frog in my lab, I honestly thought physiology lab was harder than the actual class itself, plus it came out to be 5 credits for me. Lab is essential in clarifying concepts...rest is your own choice..

HPhys is a very good class for dental school, you will take it first year.

However, the lab at my undergrad was completely pointless and a real miserable experience to get through. I would skip it if you can. The lecture, however, was superb.

@rick: Hey 🙂 no not in dental school yet but hopefully next year. Am a non traditional student..

I don't know if the lab will help in dental school. But this class will not help you significantly on the DAT and prob is not going to amaze adcoms.
