I'm going into a completely non-competitive specialty. You know, one where they only look that you passed. I did well on the NBME diagnostic even without my last clerkship in 3rd year. I'm planning on having about 1-2 weeks off of hard core studying before taking the offical CK.
On the slim chance that I switch specialties will just passing (230 range) be a deterant if I want to switch specialties during residency? Should I study longer? Besides the perfectionistic 'do the best you can in everything you do' argument is there any down side to just passing?

Uhhh... 230 is NOT just passing.

Your best route is to take the test, pass it, but don't release your score until after the Match if possible.
