Hello everyone,
How are you doing? I was studying for the step 1 and i just hit a 150 on NBME 15 (which is a 153 on the USMLE). But i'm at the 60% level in Uworld and i've gone through it about 2 times and doing the 3rd now.
Does anyone know how what I can do to improve by 70 points USMLE score wise.
I am willing to work as hard as it takes, i just need guidance.
Thank you

P.S. I used First Aid in basic sciences, but not in the course of my Step 1 prep.

Hi,

I think you need to go back to the basics. The sections that you are lacking on, go back to the review books for those courses and get back to the basic concepts. You need to have those down cold. From there I would probably recommend taking a review course like Kaplan/Falcon/DIT whichever you prefer.

Unfortunately, I took Kaplan in NY last year but it's probably because my basic weren't good that I didn't get much out of it

Do you really think I need to go back to books like Robbin and stuff or can I study NBMES, Uworld and FA and get away with it?

I really think you should go back to the basics, once you have the basics down you will find these review resources much more useful. I would pick up books like Costanzo for physiology, Pharmacology for the Medical student (by Erick Bourassa) for pharm, Pathoma for pathology, Kaplan Biochem I think would suffice, BRS for Behavioural. I really think if you go back to the basics with these books, you'll see a major improvement in your scores, hopefully in the 220 range you're aiming for.

That is a pretty low NBME score for getting a 60% on UWorld to be honest, at least from what other people have said about their performance on UWorld vs their exam. Keep in mind the % on those qbanks doesn't tell you much about how you will really do, but still, maybe you just had a bad time with that particular test? Is this the first practice test you have done?

Thanks BlueJay25, i appreciate the kind gesture. I hope good as well. I just don't know I can, at this point, go back when I can invest time into moving forward and trying stuff like reading FA w/ Qbank questions. I wanted to give this exam this year.

Alex_wel1, I have read from others and also learned from my experience that I don't think sitting and memorizing FA would really help. BUT, if you're suggesting I go through a Qbank and then go into first aid to read up on it, that makes sense. My Uworld account is ending soon (in 2 weeks) and all I have is old RX exams (which incorporate FA).
I've done Uworld twice and almost done with the 3rd round.

PathologyDO, it is the first practice test I've taken, yes.

Let's see if I understand correctly-You want a 70 point gain in less than 2 months ?
Not to discourage you but I have never seen such an improvement posted anywhere (unless the NBME 15 score is an outlier).
I agree with PathologyDO that there seems to be a disconnect between your NBME 15 score and UW average.
What about UWSA ?
