I will be attending medical school next year and have considered applying for the army HPSP. My grandfather served as a doctor in the army and I have cousins who are currently on active duty. I have always had an interest in the army and I feel some positive experiences can come out of it. I know there is a lot of BS associated with this scholarship but if I do it, I already expect it. My only reservation about doing the program is socially. I understand doctors in general will be working so hard that social time is limited to begin with; however, for the few hours a month that one does have free, how is it meeting women while in the army? It seems to me that this would be more difficult given the fact one is moving around more often. Obviously my main goal is to become a doctor and focus on the task ahead. If my continued interest in serving the country leads me to the army I will take whatever hardships come because that is what I will expect. However, I was just wondering.

i have wondered the same thing, goodstuff. However, i have come to the conclusion that when im sitting at the bar in my uniform and ladies come up to me, this will be the conversation:

ladies: "ooh youre in the navy - what do you do"
me: "i am a navy seal."

....if that doesnt get me women....i dont know what will :-D

but i appreciate the seriousness of the question and am hoping it wont be too difficult to meet someone

OP, you realize that you have at least 4 years before you even have to start with the military, right? You have a lot of time to meet someone just in medical school.

You realize that if a SOF guy catches you at that, what's left of you gets court-martialed, right?

Also, if "I'm a Navy DOCTOR" isn't good enough to get you laid, spend less time reasearching military medicine and more time researching plastic surgery.

good lord...don't even think about masquerading as a seal, ranger, marine recon, or whatever...I witnessed a guy at a gym in CA caught by an EOD tech..dude it was just horrible watching this guy get verbally abused...don't do it👎

I'm assuming the goose was being a bit tongue in cheek.

In regard to the OP's question, it depends. The problem a lot of single medical officers in the army run into is that you frequently get stationed in locations where there aren't a lot of opportunities for educated single people.

That is because people who have college degrees and are single don't typically get a job in the middle of nowhere. Even the "moderate" size cities like el paso, augusta, etc., don't really have any age 20's or 30's something single people.

Come on now, lighten up kids. I recommend telling the girls that its just like JAG except you do some doctor stuff too.

seriously though....man in uniform...AND a doctor...cant beat it

Very true, and whenever I went to NYC I'd meet plenty of great women. But then the long distance relationship with a person you barely know doen't work out so well.

There's always internet dating.

Speaking of which, I am a single female about 5'9", long legs, blond hair, blue eyes, talk with an Austrailian accent, like long walks on the beach and wear a D-cup. I am looking for a hot sexy, Navy man who can match up to my stellar looks and genius level intelligence. Aside from being drop dead gorgeous, I like to watch football, give back massages, cook dinner every night and I don't mind if you leave the toilet seat up.

If this interests you, please PM me or call 123-456-7890.

Is this hot now? Why is this hot?

Well it's better than pretending to be a Navy Seal, anyway.

yeah...except I think I said my name was Corina or something else that sounded mildly foreign porn starlike, but was really an anatomy term.

RugbyJC, you are for me......just don't tell my wife.

I started medical school this year and I'm getting married, in the spring. Fast you might say yes, but I failed to mention that I am HPSP for the Air Force and my wife to be is HPSP in the Army (and also a second year) so we have a lot going on over the next few years...so see, there is hope even if you make it as difficult as humanly possible on yourselves! 😀

(and worse comes to worse you can always audition for the bachelor....)

i vote this the funniest thread currently posted

Notice how no one has posted that the "chicks really dig the Army ACU/Army Greens."

Just a thought if you are signing up for the army HPSP scholarship.

Also, with the army think about being stationed in a lot of places where it is tough to meet women you would want to marry, women that you could marry, or even women without STDs and that aren’t strippers, and/or married (currently to someone else or formerly a couple times).

You will thoroughly enjoy the dating scene when you're enjoying the typical 14 month army deployment to Iraq. I hear the local Iraqi women love American dollars - too bad you won't be let out of base to explore.

And while you're deployed, I'm sure all the major bars and restaurants in your local CONUS area will be happy to display your photo for all the women to fantasize 🙂

why do u think that girls should like u just for being in the military? thats no longer the case(not in 21st century). but if you are in better physical shape or have more popular friends than your civilian counterparts, that can make a difference... and if you go into navy, you are likely to be stationed in san diego. how is that not a good city? otherwise i think 4wks vacation/yr is similar to what you get as a civilian resident.
also im russian and my view on women is that they dont really like me in america. i mean they're much nicer to me when i am drunk at some party(but thats rare because i hardly ever drink, being a premed and all). but when i message random girls on facebook i get "do i know you?" or "wtf?" i might try other dating sites like match.com. but thats unlikely because you have to pay and the variety of women is much worse(hardly any meet my physical requirements).
i think swedish women are great. i know 1 hot girl in my city. and if you import one from sweden, they dont need visas unlike russians...

Aside from what it might do for procreative prospects, I work with a number of "retired" Army docs (did their 20, now in private practice) and they have nothing but good things to say about their time in the military. For one, most retired military docs are still going strong and in full-time private practice. But, they also get retirement money every month. One guy I worked with said he gets a check for about $5000 every month. Just comes in the mail. No big deal. Will get it - and health benefits - until he dies. Pretty sweet deal.

I'm not active. I signed FAP - which is a reserve program that supports you through residency. I'm a little edgy that I've signed my life away, but so far they've kept their end of the deal by sending me money every month during residency.

When I enlisted as a 91X Mental Health Specialist, my recruiter told me "you are going to be chasing so much tail at Ft. Sam because the ratio is like 7 females to 1 male."

"Chasing tail." A term I had never heard before then.
