I was curious about any experiences student's have had at Olympia Fields during rotations. As a second year CCOM student i think it's safe to say I'll be there next year! Thanks

there are some good learning opportunities depending on the rotation..

icu is very good, surgery (senior dependent) can be good, urology is good

however, the census has been rather low for a while

remember, you share the hospital with the PA students as well as AZCOM rotators and loads of interns.be prepared to wait in line for procedures, etc..the best time to learn to do procedures is nite call when it is just you..

ancillary staff can be beligerent and incompetent..treat them with respect if you want anything done right..

be prepared to be scutted out plenty and be an H&P factory..find the resident who will teach you..take advantage of lectures.

remember that you are there to learn, not to get coffee and do scut..

there is good pathology that comes through oly actually, take advantage of it..

ob/gyn/ pediatrics are weak rotations there..try to get christ for peds and ob for sure..

good luck

I am a new MS3 and I did my second rotation at Oly. It was great! I did nephrology with Dr. Hollandsworth and we also spent a couple of days with Dr. Slick. We had two lectures a day in the auditorium and Dr. Holly would give us many 'mini-lectures' throughout the day. We had really long hours with Dr. Holly, but that was because he was covering for his partner who was on vacation at the time. But, we learned a lot! You will definitely have a good understanding of how the kidney works at the end of the month. I highly recommend this rotation.
