How is the application reviewed for medical school?

I was just curious as to how the medical school application was reviewed typically by adcom. i feel like knowing this might have implications on the way we apply. for example i know that many of the UC schools use gpa and mcat to screen people out and afterwards the applicaiton is considered heavily over the GPA and SAT scores. is it the same way for medical school?

No I don't think so. If you have low grades you'll be weeded out pretty automatically barring special circumstances.

From what I know at one particular school and have heard at a few other schools, after an interview the adcom sees all your stats and your interviewers speak on your behalf, then they all vote. So they do still take grades and gpa into consideration but at this point in the process, more emphasis is placed on other aspects of the application.

They do that for state schools. Our state school has a "sliding scale" initial review process where they see your GPA, then see the MCAT. If it fits in the scale, then they send a secondary. The secondary is pretty much verifying that you're a state resident.

Then, they invite you for an interview. The state school does MMI's so you're interviewed by most, if not all, adcoms. After Oct. 15th, they hold a committee every Wednesday or something to review all of the applicants they interviewed and vote if they like you or not. If they do, then they email the acceptance letter.
