Hi dear Colleges and friends

I am MD form EU, in the moment in Toronto. I had desire to try the life here in North America, but Canada and US are two totally different places.
I used to live in the states and I loved it. But Canada ooogh!

So I am moving back to Europe this summer.
I get registration in Ireland. So I started to look for a SHO positions.

If here are some colleges I would appreciated if someone will share how is it like in Ireland,
How is it like working as SHO.
And similar impressions.

:luck: cheers

So you applied to US and Canada and didn't get a spot? 🙁

No No. I did not apply. I wanted to settle in Canada and pass both examination.
But Its not worth it,

I passes only step 1, and now will go to Ireland and I will see, not very sure if I will go for the rest of the exams and only for states. Canada no chance. Ive meet so many colleagues who have passed Canadian exams and still wait. They wait but nobody cares, and so many years out of medicine will brake you totally.
Its not worth it.

Are you in Ireland , handsome88?

Wow...I see. What specialty are you going for? I'm sure you can still go for FM if you took one or two years off. Are you Canadian or European?

Yes I'm in Ireland but I'm still in my early years.

Im off MD practice for 6 months but most of the people Ive meet in Canada are off 4 to 9 years until they quit the idea. But states is good option if you want so much North America. For myself I prefer EU.
I am european. and u?

So how is the work satisfaction between doctors in Ireland ?
How is life

Well from what I know it is much better to work here in Ireland if you are European than to work in Canada. I would try to go back and just quit the idea if I were you.

Very few actually post in here once they are in med school or when they finish.

Thanks asd979

And How is Life compared to Canada?

I see a lot of Canadians go to school in Ireland

That's not because life in Ireland is better than life in Canada, it's because it's incredibly hard to get into med school in Canada. I went to med school in Ireland and am now happily practicing in Canada. The post graduate training is more organised in Canada and more focused on making you an independent concultant level attending in a reasonable (and predetermined) amount of time. SHO's spend a lot of time doing stuff for their consultants and little time learning. Furthermore, if you don't get a training position the SHO's in nontraining positions just do the hard work that no one else wants to do. Ireland is also a very expensive country to live in. Climate-wise, it beats most of Canada - very little snow anywhere and not very cold. However, the winters are quite wet.
Cheers,
M

There is an imbalance between service and education in the Irish system which is detrimental to a young doctor's development. Job satisfaction is not very good.

Thanks med2ucc and arb. That`s very nice to know.
