Am I really late if I am planning to submit my app this week? Planning on retaking DAT early August and have been seeing mixed information both on here and from admissions at dental schools (some say late is December :lame: ) Please let me know what you guys think, when is "late" and is it still "early"

You are still considered Early if you have everything in and done by mid-August.

Schools like NYU and some others told me You are still considered early in their perspective if you have your application complete by the end of summer.

Depends on your app. But keep in mind, you and what you might call a 'buttload' of other applicants are taking the DAT in August. It can't be that late. It's not freak out time.

You can e-submit before you take yoru DATs. That's what I did, i ahve yet to take mine. Best to have everything submitted and sent early and update later with DAT scores and etc than to wait till everything is compiled and submit later

There have been several people asking this lately. For more opinions, you can try searching the forum for those.

Totally agree. That's what I am doing as well. I am not taking the DAT until end of this month but I have submitted my app so that it is just pending my scores.

Are you two taking or retaking? The OP is likely fine, but depending on schools of choice, you have to avoid submitting and having old scores reach the schools. Even if you indicate a retake, a handful of schools will not go back to your application. They look once. But I think your timing is still good to avoid that if you're taking early August.

No retake, this is my first time

December is really late to submit so do not wait to submit then. But if you're retaking in August it should be fine. If you submit your AADSAS app this week, just make sure you state the date of your future exam score..this way they place your application on hold and evaluate you then. Best of luck on your exam!!

Some schools have decisions by December/January... I would say definitely E-Submit your app, its what I have heard all along.

I'd feel comfortable still as long as you're retaking in early August. If you submit in the next few days, you probably won't be verified for sending for at least a week, probably two. That puts you close to August. You destroy the test early August, wait a couple weeks or so for that to clear, and you're good to go. A complete app by end of August/early September is not late (unless you've got like a 3.0 and a 18AA or something). I'd say a good portion of schools are just starting to go through apps in August. So you're looking at a window of a few weeks where a school could potentially look at old scores. Note, I'm under the impression that most schools will honor the future exam date and wait for updated scores. It's just a handful who won't wait and process any complete apps, even with a future date on there. You may even consider faxing unofficial scores to schools if they will accept them so that potential window is even smaller and so your app will be complete a couple of weeks sooner.

Don't sweat it. Worry about pulling off a monster score and then try the fax route. Good luck!

I retook my DAT on August 8 got an interview for late September and was accepted on December 1. Early August isn't late. You will be fine.

I have like a 3.1 :scared: been taking post-bachelor classes and got a 18 the first time 2 years ago without properly studying. What score do you think might possibly make me mildly competitive? I have done about 20 credits post-bacc

Aim for 24+. It's very much possible with discipline and dedication!

EDIT: 24+ for every score that is.

Do I still have time to get that score this summer? What do you recommend for study methods?

Glimmer's signature has a good study method. Look her up. Lots and lots of Chad's videos.

You forgot to mention luck and a lot of it.

That is true, but depressing 🙁

Have you started studying already? You said that your test date is in early August so I presume that you already have. Definitely tap into Chad's for chemistry and most of QR. Bio I found was best using eclectic sources, even from your first/second year bio courses! Grab a bunch of practice tests for RC and PAT, because those are strategy-based and you will do better with practice and lots of it.
