I plan on retaking the GRE test when I am ready but I'm wondering about the schools whose deadlines have already passed. How late after the PTCAS deadline is too late to accept GRE scores? I know there is a time when the schools will make a decision but I think that they are waiting for better GRE scores from me(at least I hope they give me that time before deciding based on my horrendous past scores of 810 total) and I was wondering what's considered too late after the PTCAS deadline for GRE scores? a month, two months? I'm scared I will not be ready for the GRE in time. I want to start PT school in Fall 2012. Everything else but the GRE test seems to be ready. I'm scared the GRE test will hold me back.

If you go to www.ptcas.org and then click on program requirements, you can search for the school(s) you want to apply to and if you scroll down to the GRE section there is an area that indicates the latest GRE test date acceptable. Not all schools have this listed. If they don't, then check their school website. If you can't find it there just call them.

Also, the e-submit deadline is different than the GRE deadline. Some schools I'm applying to had e-submit deadlines before the new GRE scores were even released, yet they were accepting the new GRE. I called and asked, just to make sure, and they were okay with, and expecting scores to be sent well after the deadline.

Thanks I see that NYU has an October deadline for GRE scores(it's on it's website not the PTCAS Program Requirements list though) and my highest score on the GRE is around 810 total and a 4 Analytical. With such a poor score I'm pretty sure I'd be wasting my money adding NYU last minute(tonight before 11:59 PM) to my designations. $35 isn't much but I just feel that there is no chance with the low GRE score I have and they won't accept a future GRE score for people enrolling for Fall 2012.

I scrolled through that Program Requirements GRE list and I just have a feeling that taking the GRE the same year that you plan to start the first semester of the PT school is too late for any school. This is very discouraging, i really want to start PT school in Fall 2012, i don't want to wait another year, especially if it is only because of the GRE. I already feel like I've wasted a year having to get my undergraduate degree. I know that sounds bad but i came back to school for DPT not whatever I'm doing my undergraduate in. Of course I don't have the facts, I missed the chance to call and ask about GRE deadline for Columbia University. The application deadline is in less than a couple of hours, sure it's just $35 to add them but I'm wondering if I have anything to loose by doing that, being that I probably won't be ready to take the GRE again until February 2012. I am going to apply to Columbia University anyway just in case, i don't think NYU will accept an 810 GRE test score. I feel so close to getting in to PT school in Fall 2012 but also so far because of the GRE. Maybe I'm putting too much in to GRE scores but my score is very low regardless.

Edit: Addendum: Scratch that can't apply to Columbia either because Columbia wants a prerequisite that I have no time or space in my schedule to complete if I want to start their DPT in 2012.

I know how it feels. ~50% of people who apply in PTCAS don't get any acceptances. It's discouraging...and I don't want to wait another year either (I'm getting my bachelors in 4 and a half years, and not 4, and therefore it's an extra year for me).
Though keep in mind not all schools place a big importance on GRE, and some don't even require it at all.

Also, I've found the PTCAS lists are accurate for the most part, but not everything in there is set in stone. Some of the schools I applied to had things listed on PTCAS that contradicted what the requirements were listed as on the school's website. Another school listed anatomy on the prereq list as a course that must be taken at a 4 year university (it's my only prereq at a CC). I called them and they told me not to worry about it, and that they were confused as to why it was even listed like that on PTCAS. So just double-check if you really want to go to that school. You may be able to work around something like medical terminology, or some other prereqs that a lot of schools aren't asking for.

HEY! Apply to NorthEastern!!! They don't require the GRE, and they DONT go through PTCAS. THeir curriculum has changed and the application starts in Jan I think. But it is a 4 year program because you do that Co-op program where you work for a year but hey it's a start! IDK check out their website. I was actually going to apply there but I was lazy to get all my stuff for them like letters of req and stuff since it wasn't through PTCAS. Good luck!!
