tried a search and came up empty--

in general, how long after an interview will you hear from a school? is it weeks or months? thanks a lot!

dpd's if the school's rolling or not. if not, then you usually hear about the same time as everyone else. if it is, it dpd's on how slow or fast the school is.

at my EVMS interview they told us we'd find out within 3 weeks. This seems really quick though, so I don't know if all schools are like this or not.

OSU said that they can't notify until October 15.

Georgetown told us that we should expect to hear something 8-10 weeks after the interview.

Rolling schools usually decide quickly. Non-rolling schools, like Vermont, don't start making decisions until December. Even after that, they only meet a few times a year to make these decisions, so it could be very, very late.

Also, looking over last year's threads, it's important to realize that being waitlisted happens much more often than people are comfortable with. People seem too quick to assume that they'll either get an acceptance or rejection after they have had an interview. Often, you end up remaining in limbo.

I'm sure we'll see a thread about waitlistees pop up soon after the acceptance thread.

I don't know for a fact, but I heard that all AMCAS schools cannot notify regular (not ED) applicants of acceptance until October 15th.

Other than that, it is up to the school how soon after an interview to offer acceptance. I have heard of people that have been accepted the same day they interviewed, although this is probably very rare. The only people who know the answer to the OPs question for certain for a specific school are on the ADCOM.

The October 15th rule is true (although there are some schools that ignore it a little bit, and let you know a few days early). Most schools have a policy--for example, Michigan State notifies you (accepted people get phone calls) the Tuesday after your interview (Thursday) as long as it's after October 15th. So that's a 5 day turnaround.
MCW committee meets the Thursday after your interview (Friday), and mails the letters out, but won't tell you over the phone.
Schools should be able to give you an estimate of when you'll hear... good luck everyone!

fast turnarounds are a couple weeks and other places take months. it all depends on the school. i basically repeat what other people say 😉.

At EVMS they told us about the October 15th rule but nobody in our group, including myself were understanding why. They also told us that we could call in like 2-3 weeks after and they can tell us "off the record."

It just depends on the school. NJMS let me know within 2 weeks, Miami took 3 weeks, Mt Sinai took 8 weeks. Usually they tell you on the interview day when you should expect to hear back from them.

My response times ranged from two weeks to three months. And that was from only 4 interviews.

NJMS within 2 weeks???!!!! 😱 I just interviewed there on monday, they told us by 6-8 weeks. :scared: Oh my gosh..... I hope it's 2 weeks.

Remember the October 15th rule. This probably factors into what they told you.

is the october 15th thing because of AMCAS?

It was really funny, NJMS was my first acceptance back in March and I was getting kind of anxious so I called the admissions office two weeks after my interview and asked them about my status. When I told the secretary that I had interviewed 2 weeks before she just laughed and said it would take at least 6 weeks. THAT NIGHT, I got the call from Dr.Heinrich telling me I was in! The committee had just decided that day!

Good luck guys, med schools really are unpredictable.
