I know that you must withdraw from all schools except for one following May 15th, but I was wondering how long you can hold 2 acceptances after receiving an offer from a waitlist.

If I'm holding an acceptance to school X, but get into school Y off the waitlist on May 14th, do I still have to withdraw one of the acceptances by May 15th?

If I get into school Y off the waitlist after My 15th, how long do you have before you have to withdraw from one of the two schools? 24 hrs? A week? I haven't seen this info anywhere. Thanks a lot for the help.

As soon as possible. When a school where your waitlisted makes an offer of admission to you after May 15th, they also immediately notify the school where you're currently holding a spot - see the below link for more details

Ask the school. I have heard cases of 2 weeks, and also cases of one week...

You generally have ~2wks to accept an offer.
You should rescind the old offer asap, because a school adcom at either of the two schools may see you holding two acceptances and you may lose both (worst case). They'll likely press you first, but generally, accept the new and reject the old asap.

I had/have this exact same question. I got accepted off the waitlist at a school yesterday, but I have an acceptance at another school. I know that after the May 15th deadline you generally have 2 weeks, but I wondered whether this applied to waitlist acceptances before the deadline. I figure they owe me at least 2 weeks to weigh out my options and make a choice.

...and the closer you get the offer to the matriculation date, I have heard cases of having 24 hours to decide...

Don't assume anything.

If you really need 2 weeks, I would contact both schools and ask for permission to extend past the May 15 deadline.

But I would not assume that you are not subject to the May 15 rule.

I've heard that Hopkins gives ppl a few hours to decide...

Good point. What a shame it would be to have 1 secure acceptance only to end up with nothing after not making a decision.
