I thought I had a pretty good shot at getting an interview, although my cGPA and sGPA are somewhat low (3.05 and 2.95) I though I made up for them with my 29Q MCAT and strong experiences, statements, and lors...

but I have been complete for 4 weeks, and so far silence... should I be worried?
I heard of people getting interview invites one week after submitting their applications...

is waiting just a sign that they are considering me, or is it a silent rejection?

It's very tough to gauge your chances at the moment. And waiting isn't a rejection in any manner. It can take anywhere from a month or so to even 2 before you are granted/not granted an interview. If you've applied for the Aug '10 term, remember that that term gets a (somewhat) more competitive pool of applicants than the Jan term. And admission standards at SGU are pretty sound (going by the stats of entering students posted on various forums). Your stats are definitely good for SGU, and if i were you, i wouldn't worry too much.

Another possible reason for the delay could be that the office is in bucket loads of work for the Jan '10 entering class. So maybe they aren't reviewing files till everything for the spring term has been finalised. Just my $0.02.

Call them up, check on your app. You never know, they could still be waiting for something on your end.

Yes, it couldn't hurt to call. I know someone in undergrad admissions, and you would be surprised at how often application materials are coded as being missing when they are actually in the file.

thanks for the input... I'll make sure to call them in a couple of days... I'll just try to stay positive until then

SGU weighs your GPA more heavily than your MCAT. I got a response from them in four weeks, but declined the interview.

I got my interview in 4 weeks but my friend got hers in 6 and she applied before me. Just be patient and wait but definitely call them up or better yet just email your Admissions adviser, they will definitely help you out!👍

Maybe I'm just paranoid, still waiting for a word... I called them last week, and they said my file hasn't been reviewed yet because they're still settling out some stuff with the January class, I guess I expected a faster turnaround... hoping to hear something soon

A poster on VMD applied significantly late (late october), interviewed December 2nd and heard back recently. He had stats somewhat similar to yours (29MCAT and 2.9 GPA). He was given CFP and told that if he wanted to be reviewed for the MD, he should apply for the Aug class and be "first in line".

thanks for the info schandan...

it's interesting cause I applied in October for the August class, I figured it was too late to apply for January, and was probably right. Well... still no word from SGU, which is extremely frustrating. I don't see why I would be flat out rejected, which might mean they haven't started interviewing yet for the August class, but then they should tell early applicants to stay put for a while instead of driving themselves crazy while waiting for a reply.

I guess if SGU only begins reviewing the August applicants in January, then I'm first in line, but I really don't know what to think at this point, it's demoralizing

so, just got interview invite... finally!
Unfortunately though, they mentioned something about how I might have to do CFP... it's so discouraging... I know it's cause of my low gpa, I also know that my gpa was higher than the average premed's at my undergrad, which is known for deflation, well I'll take what I can get I guess

Yup...we started orientation...so naturally, work load for the office came down. Gluck with the interview !

So if you apply for august and you are denied, do you have to apply all over again for Jan or can they review your application again since you guys mentioned that Jan is less competitive?

If you are denied, i think you reapply. It would be worth finding out what the reasons behind you being rejected were, then, maybe work on certain things and send in a fresh application.
