I was fired at Walgreens in 2010 (back when I was a technician) for excessive tardiness.

I went to pharmacy school and graduated in 2015. There's an opening for an overnight pharmacist at Walgreens and I am getting really tired of CVS and my new district leader.

Anyone happen to know how long they keep employment records? I'm guessing I was marked as "do not rehire," but I'm not sure.

No company worth their salt gets rid of employment records.

Memory storage is cheap.

In a similar situtation, got fired from there as an up-front clerk an like 7 years ago. Tried to reapply as a pharmacist but apparently I am still on a Do Not Rehire list with no form of an appeals process per the rx DM. Kind of sucks but its all good screw that company

Trying to figure out the same for Costco with me. I got let go during probation period for messing with the air conditioner when I was told not to touch it. Air conditioner pipes ended up freezing because it was left on overnight set to 55 degrees.

I had to laugh at this no offense intended. I've applied to Costco never get an interview. But I wish I could work at a place that has rules and actually enforces them. If they put you down as "do not rehire", then who gets fired and isn't marked "do not rehire"?

It seemed like a stupid reason to me. It was 105 degrees outside and with the AC set at 75, I was sweating balls.

There should always be a permanent record of you and your history with the company on file. It doesn't get deleted. Being fired when you were a technician 8 years ago probably doesn't matter to the hiring manager...maybe.

virtually nobody who is fired is eligible for rehire - that is why reasonable people try to give people an opportunity to resign first (unless it is for stealing or punching someone)

Depends how they coded your termination. If it says do not rehire or rehirable. We had a tech who called in all the time and would ask for a bunch of days off we just took her off the schedule and she is listed as rehirable. Remember it's easier to leave as ok to rehire than not to re hire and provide all that documentation if the employee challenges the termination. I might be wrong though.

I would still apply and explain what you learned from the situation with honesty and humility

If you are really dying to do overnights I would apply. I am sure they keep their records forever, but how they use them varies widely. In a tight market this makes a difference. But the DM can wave their magic wand and make like you never got fired. I would be worried about doing overnights. As chains cut store hours there are less and less wag 24 hour stores.
