How long is optometry school?

How long is optometry school? I am asking for my younger cousin who is considering this route. In addition "is learning lasik surgery part of the training?"

Optometry school is four years after you get a BA/BS degree in undergraduate school

And no, you don't learn lasik. Lasik procedures are done by ophthalmologists.. not OD's.

cpw answered your question, but just to mention, OD's are not required to do residency after Optometry school, but you can have the option to do one.

I don't know if Optometry students learn exactly how to perform LASIK surgery, but I think students are taught the basics of it, b/c many OD's see pre and post follow-ups of laser surgery. 🙂
