I've got about a month of Medicine left and I'm going to use the time to hammer through as many UW questions as possible. After Medicine, I have Psych, Neuro, and Family Medicine to round out the end of M3. I'm not sure when I'll be taking Step 2, but probably late-ish.

Should I just buy a month subscription for $99 and then buy another, longer (but probably < or = to 6months) subscription later for Step 2? Or is UW pretty useful to have for Psych/Neuro/FM? Basically, I'm wondering if buying a year-long subscription now for $399 is worth it to have for my remaining three shelves + Step 2, or if I should just get a month now and worry about re-purchasing it for Step 2 specifically when it gets closer to the time I'll be studying for that.

Any input? Was UW pretty key in your studying for those other three shelves?

UW is useless for FM, but it's good for psych and great for neuro. Psych is a pretty damn easy shelf, though. You could definitely get away with not using UW if you wanted to. Lange and FA will be sufficient for Psych, and the AAFP board review questions are both free and incredibly good prep for the FM shelf. Neuro I'm not quite as sure about. It was p/f for us, so I didn't exactly go out of my way to study for it. The UW questions were very helpful and representative, but I'm sure there are other resources you could get by with.

In other words, I don't think I'd spend any sort of serious cash for a renewal if you're not going to be taking Step 2 for 6+ months. I don't think I'd renew it at all, in fact.

edit: Actually, I'm sort of confused as to when your subscription expires. You definitely want to have UW through medicine, so renew for that if you need to.

Not sure if there is a UW for Family. But for medicine it was crucial to success. Can't comment on the others. I used mainly Kaplan Qbank but I can't imagine UW hurts to do. More questions mo better.

Get it for the full year. Trust me...not only will it help on shelves, but when you go to do all the questions over again for StepII you will be much better prepared.

Of course that's just me. It was possibly the best $400 I spent in M3.

U world is not as helpful for psych or neuro. I think that you could supplement those rotations with pretest or other q&a books like A&L. I cant comment on FM since I didn't use uworld for this rotation. Defintely think it would be best to just use uworld for medicine and step 2 later.
