I am IM doing primary care but I figured I would post in this forum too. I have been in my private practice group for less than a year. Growth has been slow so far but picking up a bit. How long did it take for you to build your panel? Any suggestions for building it faster?

Most new doctors in my area are pretty busy at the year mark and basically full around 18 months.

Same as VA Hopeful - depends on your experience level and the need where you are, but I would say reliably busy at a year and full at 18 months.

As for suggestions - you could introduce yourself to the local hospitalist groups or the ER - it can help them to know who to refer patients to for follow up. Same for specialists, particularly specialists that patients treat like their PCPs (OB/gyn, oncology, cardiology, endocrinology).

You want to be busy? Give your card to the urgent cares and tell them you are taking new patients. I see at least 10 people a day who need a PCP.
Some of those think the urgent care is their PCP though.....
One patient I saw in the hospital listed and insisted the ER physician he routinely saw was his PCP.
