Hello all,

I have a quick question. My AACOMAS application was just verified today, I sent it in Dec 31 so a full month, I know kinda late in the game. I was wondering how long did it take to get sec applications from schools. Just curious.

All the best

Well if you look at the school websites, alot of them have them there for you to download and fill out already. So what I'd do is fill the ones that you can in advance. Schools seem to take anywhere from 1-3 weeks to send you a secondary.

Thank you for the reply that helps significantly. Good Luck to you this application season

I heard back within a week from most of the schools.. It is a really good idea to start on them early, they take a lot of time

I found this on a thread about a year ago. These are the essay prompts in the secondary applications. Hope it helps!!!

AZCOM

Attach a copy of your resume or curriculum vitae

Why do you believe AZCOM would provide you with the type of osteopathic medical education you are seeking and why should AZCOM accept you into this year's class?

CCOM

*Educational history (colleges attended and degrees earned)
*Work history
*College extracurricular activities, honors, and leadership responsibilities
*Community activities, honors, and leadership responsibilities
*Medically related work and volunteer experiences
*Hobbies and nonacademic interests

2. Attach a response to the following questions (500 words or fewer):
Why are you seeking a career in osteopathic medicine, and why do you believe CCOM would provide you with the type of osteopathic education you are seeking.?

DCOM

Applicants are required to write two short essays addressing the following questions:

1) What personal qualities do you believe you possess that will make you a successful osteopathic physician?

2) Which experiences and people have inspired you to become an osteopathic physician?

DMU-COM

Des Moines University doesn't have an "essay prompt". Their secondary application is really simple and can be completed in less than 10 minutes. They will use your aacomas essay.

KCOM

What particular qualities do you feel you can bring to KCOM?

What specific experience/exposure have you had with osteopathic medicine? How has this influenced your decision to become an osteopathic physician?

KCUMB (aka UHS-COM)

In what extracurricular, community/volunteer or vocational acitivities did you participate while in college?

List any other information you believe is pertinent to your application such as, but not limited to, motivation for applying to KCUMB, qualities you have to offer, uniqueness, leadership roles, life experiences, etc.

LECOM (both)

http://www.lecom.edu/lecom/applicati...tonsuppapp.pdf

Write a personal essay describing yourself and the qualities you possess that will make you a successful osteopathic physician

Explain or describe any clinical and/or health relates experiences you have had, include extracurricular, school and community activities.

MSU-COM

There is only one essay, but a big thing of "nonacademic experiences". Also, a few statements you have to sign, a form for your evaluators to fill out (form is mandatory - letters not accepted in lieu of the form), and you have to send one original and two copies of the whole shebang back via snail mail.

Essay:
Describe a personal experience or ethical challenge you have faced that has influenced the development of your character. How has this experience helped you to develop specific skills and/or abilities that are essential to becoming an osteopathic physician?

Please list and describe your experiences in the following categories. Be sure to include any high school activities. Attach additional pages if necessary. You may construct your responses on separate sheets following the format given. Attach your responses to the original form; include your name, social security number, and e-mail address at the top of each page. Enclose two copies with your secondary application. A resume will not be accepted in place of the form.
1. Paid work experiences
2. Volunteer Experience. Volunteer work is anything you have done for which you haven’t been paid from which an individual, group or organization benefited. Record experiences chronologically beginning with your high school years. Remember to include activities initiated through your workplace, a professional club or organization, an athletic team, an armed services unit or a religious institution. (Note: Shadowing experience should be listed under #3 – Extracurricular activities.)
3. Extracurricular Activities. (Sports, shadowing, clubs, offices held, professional and/or service organizations, etc.)
4. Academic Activities. Please describe any scholarships, fellowships, and/or awards you have received. Also describe research activities such as grant-funded projects, publications, or poster presentations. Where possible, give dates, college or university, and sponsoring agency, if applicable

The format for the experiences is also pretty strict. Position/Organization; Beginning Date; Ending Date; Total Hours; Duties/Responsibilities.
