I'm on two waitlists right now, both at state schools. My sister is getting married in August and I'm the maid of honor. I have to buy a plane ticket for the wedding. If I get accepted off either of these waitlists, I'll be moving and thus using a different airport than I do now.

How long should I wait before assuming I'm not going to be accepted, that way I can secure my flights from my current location? Thanks!

EDIT: I'm not withdrawing either of my waitlist spots.

It's up to you how long you wait, but if I were in that position, the couple hundred bucks difference in flight tickets (buying them now vs later) wouldn't justify giving up hope on either of my med school options

sorry let me clarify: I'm not withdrawing either waitlist spot. Just looking for a date when it's safe to say I probably won't be accepted, so I can buy my plane ticket. If I end up getting accepted after that then I'll figure it out from there. Just wondering what the general consensus is on assuming waitlist movement is basically finished.

Since both schools have orientation early around June or the end of June, I think it is safe to say the majority of waitlist movement has finished 🙁

How do you know when orientation is?

Check the school academic calendar.

Southwest is very forgiving with flights. One year to reuse the funds if cancel up to the flight time I believe.

My friend got off the waitlist after orientation...I think he got accepted literally 3 days before classes started. So, it's kind of hard to know.

I would just book the plane ticket from your current airport...worst case scenario, you spend a couple hundred bucks changing the ticket. Try to see the options offered for refundable tickets. Sometimes they offer those for $50 more when you make the purchase.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!
